This week at SLVE
It's been a busy week at SLVE. 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have finished up all CAASPP testing. 4th and 5th graders are practicing their class plays and looking forward to presenting within the next two weeks. Our 5th grade band is getting ready to perform at the SLV Music and Art Festival at Roaring Camp on May 22nd. Please see the flyer below for details.
Students in all grades have been finishing up persuasive writing pieces and sharing them with their peers, buddies and Principal. We have a very persuasive group of students at SLVE. I've heard many great ideas for improving our school and making things run smoothly.
Just 13 days left of school. Please mark your calendars for our 5th grade promotion date and time. This year we will be celebrating the 5th grade promotion on Wednesday, June 5th at 9:30 am.
Be sure to mark your calendar. Next Monday, May 27th, is the Memorial Day Holiday. There is no school on that day.

SLVE TK and Kindergarten Registration
1. Prepare for Registration. SLVE opens new TK and Kinder student registration on January 29th. Please review the registration page to determine if your child is eligible for TK or Kindergarten and all the documents needed to complete the Enrollment Process.
2. Plan to attend our TK/Kindergarten Meet/Greet: As we move into Spring, we will announce a date for our Annual Meet and Greet for incoming students . It’s an opportunity for adults to meet the Principal, Teachers, inquire about our Transportation and Nutrition Programs, and get to know more about our school and our TK/ kindergarten program.
SLVE Intent to Return Form~PLEASE complete
It's hard to believe that we are already looking ahead to next year. In order to get an idea of our enrollment for next year, please take a moment to complete the intent to return form for all current TK-4th grade students. We hope to get 100% of our families to complete the form. Having these numbers helps us determine our classes for the 2024/2025 school year.
Summer ELOP
For summer of 2024, SLV will be running its Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP) in June and July for qualifying families. Families who qualify for Summer ELOP should have received an email on February 28th. This is the only summer offering for SLVUSD students other than high school credit recovery.
Please remember 4th and 5th grade classes are in session from 2:15-3:00
We'd like to remind SLVE families that school is still in session for our 4th/5th graders from 2:15-3:00 each day. If you are waiting on the picnic tables during this time, it is VERY important to remember that students are still in classrooms finishing up their school day.
The play structure has become very busy and noisy during this time which can be distracting for our students and teachers. It is important that we keep this area calm and quiet. If you do have younger students who are waiting for an older sibling during this time it is important that they are monitored and that the SLVE play structure rules are followed. Thank you for respecting this request.
Community Opportunities Website
The "Community Opportunities" website link is provided as a courtesy to parents and students, by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, to enable you to receive information of current local events and opportunities for adults and/or children.
Reminders for Parents/Guardians when picking up students for appointments or early dismissal.
When excusing your student for an appointment or early pickup, please be sure to follow these important safety procedures and protocols. Parent/Guardian needs to check in with the front office. Front office staff will first verify the person is on the student’s Emergency Contact list and then call the student’s teacher. Parent/Guardian will need to remain in the office until the student arrives in the office. Parent/Guardian will then check out the student—date, name, exit time. If the student is returning, the student will need to check back in through the front office (enter time in) and return to class. It is not necessary for parents to walk their child to class, but if they do, they must follow Check-in procedures.
Dropping off/Picking up/ Parking Reminders
Please refrain from idling your car when waiting for students during drop off and pick up times. Exhaust from cars and trucks can effect the health of individuals and create pollution around schools. When waiting to drop off or pick up your student, PLEASE refrain from idling your car.
It is very important that when parking at SLVE, you are only parking in designated parking spots. Many people have been parking in the fire lane and other non designated parking spots. The SC County Sheriff's office has been ticketing any cars that are not parked in designated spots. Cars parked in non designated spots may be towed. Buses and cars need to be able to pass through the parking lot safely and with plenty of room to keep everyone safe. PLEASE follow these parking rules so that everyone stays safe and no one gets a ticket or gets towed. It is very important that handicapped parking spots are reserved for drivers who have a DMV issued handicapped placard and who benefit from using them. We thank you for your thoughtful cooperation concerning access to these parking spots.
Drop off/Pick Up Reminder
Please be Safe! When dropping off and/or picking up your student each day please be sure to use the crosswalk.
Absences, Every Day Matters....
We know people get sick, people get injured, and there can be family or life responsibilities and other issues that are reasonable and excused. But if your student can attend, they need to be in school. If your student is out for three or more consecutive days, we may request a doctor’s note to continue excusing the absences. Students who miss 3-5 days will receive a Chronic Absence letter. We will then meet with those families to attempt to support the student attending school. On the second Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet at the District Office to put a plan in place for the student’s attendance. On the third Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet with the County Office Student Attendance Review Board for truancy. Our goal is that nobody ever gets that far along with truancy. We are here to help and support, but it does start at home with the expectation that your student will attend school regularly.
Please remember that students who are absent 3 days or more should complete an independent study contract. Lisa Ghelardi, at lblairghelardi@slvusd.org our SLVE Registrar, will work with families to get the paperwork and the missed classwork assignments needed to complete the contract.
