2/7 Newsletter
St. Petronille Catholic School
A Note from Mr. Schmidt
Dear St. Petronille Families,
Hopefully this newsletter finds many of you having a great time on the slopes! Before anything else, a huge congratulations are in order for our 2nd grade students who received their First Reconciliation this Thursday! We are so proud of you, and very much looking forward to Saturday when our other 2nd graders will receive the sacrament! Way to go 2nd grade! Also, congratulations are in order for our 8th graders who did wonderfully in their Confirmation interviews on Tuesday!
Also on Thursday of this week, St. Petronille welcomed a visitor representing the Illinois State Board of Education for a three-year state recognition visit. During such a visit, a school's curriculum, policies, records, and practices are analyzed and reviewed to ensure compliance with state standards. I am proud to say that our school was found to have no deficiencies and remains fully recognized by the state board! Organizing the materials needed for this visit was a huge team effort and I am truly thankful for Mrs. Geils, Mrs. Loftus, Mrs. Wardynski, Mrs. Giunta-Mayer, Ms. Fernandez, Mr. Chmura, and all of the rest of the staff for their work in helping our visit to be a success!
K-8 parents should have had their child come home with an envelope containing their latest i-Ready Diagnostic scores and students in grades 3, 5, and 7 should also have brought home their CogAT testing results. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have about the testing process or results.
Please keep in mind that we have no classes on Friday, February 14th, due to a diocesan professional development day for teachers. Thursday, the 13th, is an out-of-uniform day for students where they are encouraged to wear Valentine's Day colors!
With the fun of Valentine's Day parties coming up, it might be easy to forget that we have a Donut Sunday this weekend hosted by our PO with support from our 3rd and 6th grade classes! Hopefully we will see everyone after the 9:30 AM mass this Sunday for some food, fun, and fellowship! We had a wonderful PO potluck dinner after the 5 PM mass last weekend, and are excited to get the community together again!
Please reach out with any questions you might have, or if there is any way that I can better support your family.
God bless,
Eric Schmidt
Principal

Our 2nd graders and 7th graders got together for a retreat experience before our young ones received the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time! It was a special time to spend with buddies forming bonds and growing in faith. A big thank you to Mr. Chmura for planning such a great experience for all of the students involved!
Enrichment Clubs started this Tuesday and the Baking Club used the opportunity to decorate some cakes! We always love when our students use creative opportunities to show off their school spirit!
