Superintendent's Corner
The Woodland Park community has much to celebrate and be thankful for this week! First, I want to congratulate the WPHS National Beta Club, which recently inducted 15 new members and was named a National Beta School of Distinctionโa recognition awarded to only 22% of clubs nationwide.
The high school also recently celebrated outstanding academic achievements by recognizing 80 9th to 11th grade students for earning an 1100 or higher on the 2023-24 PSATs and SATs. Of those students, 32 scored 1200 or higherโan impressive accomplishment!
I would also like to congratulate our Cheer Competition team for their 1st place win at the Boo Bash Competition, and Iโm thrilled to recognize Head Football Coach Chad Drummond, named Denver Broncos Head Coach of the Week! Additionally, the WPHS Volleyball team has eight players recognized as top performers across various categories. Letโs wish them luck as they begin tournament play today. They compete at 4 pm and 7:30 pm at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.
I am proud of our boys' soccer team, who made history as the first WPHS boys' soccer team to win a playoff game! The Panthers secured a 3-1 victory over Basalt High School in last night's home playoff game. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on this milestone achievement!
For the WPHS Cross Country team, three runners qualified individually for State, and our Girls' Cross Country team placed 3rd at Regionals to qualify as a team. Catch them competing tomorrow, November 2nd, in the State Championship at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. The girlsโ race will start at 9:40 AM, followed by Joseph Begley, our sole boys' qualifier, at 11 AM.
I am incredibly grateful to our staff, students, and families for coming together during the Highland Lake fire. With elementary schools closed and our Secondary Campus moving to remote learning for two days, everyone worked hard to keep learning on track. I want to thank our local and state first responders for their swift action in managing the fire and allowing families to return home safely. Iโd also like to thank Champions for providing daycare services during the closure and Safeway for their generosity in helping cover meal costs for students who attended daycare. Itโs inspiring to see our community unite in challenging times like these.
Woodland Park public education has never had a better year, with our students' academic achievement at new highs, our school district rating the highest ever achieved, and our sports teams competing at the highest levels. It's a great time to be a Panther!
Lastly, as we welcome November, remember to set your clocks back this Sunday, November 3rd, so that you can enjoy an extra hour of rest!
