The Scoop!
Cedar Hills Elementary - September 20, 2024

May 2, 2025 - Principal's Note
Wow! How have we already hit May!? The year has flown by and it really feels like we just started the school year. It's crazy how fast the year really flies by. This week has been amazing with lots of opportunity inside and outside of the classroom. Dr. Northup and I have had the honor of working with some "JR" principals recently. It's honestly probably filled our bucket more than it has theirs. So much fun! Thanks to the PTO and EEF, our 4th grade students were able to visit BizTown on Thursday. This field trip is an amazing opportunity to test out different jobs, apply soft skills, and learn how to work with others through an economy. There is some real world learning and application here!
On Friday, we had a collaboration day for staff. Our staff gathered together to have breakfast together, celebrate the work that we've done up until this point, and spend some time together connecting. The remainder of the day, staff focused on planning experiences for the next three weeks of school to engage and extend our students, and begin preparing for the needs of our construction project over summer. We will not have access to the building pods for the summer and that takes thought and preparation to be able to come back in August ready to provide the best experience possible for all.
As a reminder, as a community we have made an adjustment to our Front Walker practices for the safety of all. That is detailed out more below. We appreciate the support and focus on safety by all who are connected to CHE!
Have a great weekend!

Check out the progress that we have on our additions!

Front Walker Adjustment - Reminder
Last week, our Front Walker families received the email below. This will go into effect on Monday. We will have administrators, law enforcement, and other support staff out in the area to ensure the safety of this area.
Email:
We wanted to reach out to get your help addressing a safety concern that has grown to a point of impacting others and putting students and adults in unsafe situations. During the last four years at Cedar Hills, picking up students with cars that are leaving CHE as front walkers from parking in the PRMS or CHE parking lot has not been part of our protocol or practice. But there has been a small group that has done this each year. Over the years, this practice has grown and grown. It’s become a large concern for staff, OPPD, and other families as we have students walking through traffic, adults double parking, and has created some very large safety concerns for all.
Unfortunately, we’ve hit a point where we will have to ask that you not drive and park at PRMS or CHE to pick up your student if they are a front walker any longer.
If students are front walkers, they should be walking home or meeting an adult that has walked up to school to meet them and ensure they are getting home safe. We will have staff in the area helping remind adults of this over the next few weeks.
If you still want to pick up your student with a car, you are more than welcome to update their status in PickUp Patrol to a car rider and join the car line.
I realize that this will not be a welcomed change and it will frustrate most that have used this practice, but the reality of the safety concern is very real. We’ve observed students almost being hit by cars, venturing into traffic on their own, being left without an adult for 15-45 minutes, and various other situations that put our students’ wellbeing or the safety of others in the community in jeopardy. We need to make this adjustment for the safety of all.
We appreciate your support in making sure our entire community is as safe as can be.

Civility For All - Students, Staff, and Community
We are thankful for the ongoing partnership and support we experience in our school community. Working together we ensure the best possible student experience allowing them to realize personal success. There are times, however, when issues arise which require our continued collaboration to resolve. Families may utilize the matrix linked on the district website to best address questions and concerns that may arise throughout the course of a school year. Finally, all staff and visitors should conduct their business free from intimidation, harassment, or bullying. The district’s Board of Education states expectations regarding civility within Policy 6341. Again, thank you for your partnership in helping to maintain a safe school community environment for all.
