NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1 AND MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4
Friday is a grading day for teachers and Monday is a planning day. Have a great long weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday!
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings, Atkinson families,
Tomorrow Portland Public Schools begins the annual Successful Schools Survey. The Survey is an opportunity for families to provide important feedback on their school environments, learning experiences, and sense of well-being and safety at school. Students in grades 4 & 5 will take a version at school. Staff also take the survey.
We value your input and opinions and commit to reviewing the data with our Instructional Leadership Team and School Site Council, but in order to do this, we need a high response rate.
You can complete the Successful Schools Survey online using the link provided below. Please complete one survey per household. If you have more than one student at PPS, we ask that you complete the survey considering the experiences of your eldest child.
The survey will take approximately 15–30 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, and Chinese.

Thanks so much!

UPCOMING EMERGENCY DRILLS
All schools are required to instruct and drill students on emergency procedures so that the students can respond to an emergency without confusion or panic. In the coming weeks, we will be conducting the following drills at Atkinson:
- Evacuation Drill on Wednesday, November 6
- Secure the Perimeter Drill on Tuesday, November 12
Read more about these drills on the PPS website HERE.
OFFICE AMAZON WISH LIST
The office has put together an AMAZON WISH LIST! It's mostly favorite student snacks, but we also included some items for the staff workroom/lounge. If you're able to help out, we appreciate it so much!
REPORT CARDS THIS YEAR (REPEAT FROM LAST WEEK)
In an effort to align with the district’s Climate Justice policy, PPS is encouraging families to view report cards online and phasing out printing and mailing. For this first term, we will be printing a single copy to go home on Friday, November 8th. On that day parents will be able to view report cards online via Parent VUE. Here are the instructions for viewing report cards on Parent VUE. PPS will no longer mail report cards.
REPORT CARD RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES (REPEAT FROM LAST WEEK)
Families can find all of the support and guidance (including report card translations in languages other than Spanish) they need related to report cards on our K–5 Report Card Family Guide website. You are also invited to ask any questions you have about report cards during Parent/Teacher Conferences.

PTA FUNDRAISER
We're in the final week of Atkinson PTA's annual fundraiser. Your donation helps provide materials and supplies for the classrooms, PE and Art equipment, and culturally enriching activities like Dia de Los Muertos, Dia del Niño, and Lunar New Year. Also, if a family attending Atkinson needs some assistance, the Family Resiliency Fund is available to provide small grants to help make rent, keep the utilities on, or just help with some groceries.
And remember, your donation is 100% tax deductible and will enter you in a drawing for some great giveaways like a week at Baxter Sports Camp, or one of many gift cards to local businesses.
Visit http://app.givebacks.com/givetoatkinson to donate to help keep the school going at the level our students and teachers need.
