Note From Principal Pautler
Greetings Bulldogs ~
Let's talk October 31st dress up day for a bit. Honestly, I felt it was important to bring back this tradition at Memorial as it's always hilarious to see how students and teachers will dress for the day. Now, as the building principal - I get a good old case of acid reflux when I think about a few students who may want to push the envelop a little. So, let's go over some basic guidelines...
1. We all know that we can't bring anything that even remotely looks like a weapon. Even if it's made out of rubber or plastic - it's a no go.
2. We need to stay away from any costume that starts with the word "sexy"... Sexy nurse, sexy pirate, sexy fireman, sexy construction worker, etc - should stay in the closet at home. It's hard enough for students to concentrate in math class - add that in - and it's a total loss for the day.
3. Cultural respect is a must.
Most of your students have done this before and they know what flies and what doesn't. I've had a few students email me directly and seek approval for a costume. That's great! However, my dad always used to say that if you have to ask - the answer is probably no...
I want to give a shout out to our band program as they are in the midst of a trip to St. Louis for the Bands of America Super Regional. This is a national level contest where they will be provided feedback on their show. There are 72 bands competing at this super regional and this has been a major undertaking for our program. Memorial has not been to a Bands of America contest in SEVERAL years so this is a triumphant return. Band program - we are proud of you and all the hard work you have done this season. This does mean that there will not be a band at the football game tonight. We will miss you band but we know you're having an AMAZING weekend on the road!
As of writing this - we are in the middle of the Volleyball state tourney. What a year that program has had! I mentioned to teachers that it is a real statement that in the past couple weeks - we have had 2 separate teams (softball and volleyball) make a run into the state tourney. GREAT coaching and AMAZING athletes!! Believe...Belong...Sacrifice... to leave a Legacy!! These programs embody that phrase!!
Have a great weekend and enjoy the cooler weather! Go Dogs!!
