Headteacher's Message
Message from Mr O'Shannessy
We started this week, the first week of Advent, with a wonderful assembly where children learnt about the gift of giving. As a school we are working in conjunction with Caritas and have reversed the traditional Advent calendar, so instead of receiving we are giving. We have discussed the joy of sharing gifts with others and reflected on the massive impact our small sacrifice might make for someone less fortunate than us. This week we have collected: rice, pasta, shampoo, cooking oil, cereal and tinned sweet corn for the local foodbank. Next week we will be aiming to collect: cleaning products, tea/coffee, detergent, lentils/beans, long-life milk and deodorant.
In this week’s Gospel Luke 3: 1-6 we hear how John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of Jesus. We can also reflect this Advent on how we would prepare if we were to be meeting Jesus. Let’s not hold grudges, leave any quarrels unresolved or any disputes unforgiven.
On Wednesday we had the children from Year 6 represent the school at the Westminster Cathedral Advent Service. On Thursday the children from Year 3 were off to the local library. Also on Thursday we had a very successful parents' evening. I would like to thank all of the staff for their hard work and all the parents that came to support their child’s learning. Friday just would not be Friday without a delicious treat from reception class. This week I received a scrumptious cookie in the shape of a Christmas tree decorated with white icing and sprinkles!
Unfortunately, Mr O will be stepping down from his role as the Football Coach on Friday afternoons and he will be replaced by Andreas who is an ex-professional footballer. Even I have to accept the standard of provision will sky rocket! If you would like to book in for football coaching on Friday afternoons with Andreas please contact the office. Details of the other clubs on offer next term are attached below.
Next week we are getting decidedly festive and busy! Please try and join us on Wednesday afternoon for our whole school Christmas Celebration, which promises to be a joyous occasion. Thursday is Christmas Jumper Day and we will be collecting for Save the Children. We will also be tucking into a festive Christmas lunch on this day. Do try and join us on Friday and Saturday for The Friends' Christmas Fundraisers. On Friday, The Friends' will host a Christmas Gathering after school and on Saturday there will be a Christmas Carol Service at the Church.
Finally, please look out for a letter from Mrs Booker, the School Chair of Governors, with an update on the Academy Consultation.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Mr O

Year 3
Year 3 had an extremely fun outing to the library this week, where they had the opportunity to meet an author! Alison Grunwald took questions and read one of her books to the audience. St Gildas' were very lucky in having an extra reading from the author, since we got there early before the other schools!
