FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
Welcome to Term Four!
What a busy term ahead we have with so many important events and school activities planned. Please check the online school community calendar https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/community-calendar and continue to read the newsletter on a fortnightly basis for further information.
Rosary
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. We dedicate this month to honour Mary in thanks for her love and protection. Each decade of the Rosary refers to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. This month the children will be saying either a Hail Mary or a decade of the Rosary.
Reconciliation
Please keep the Year Three children in your prayers as they celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on 29 October 6.00pm at Our Lady of the Missions Church.
Celebrating first Reconciliation is such a special sacrament as the children are drawn closer to Jesus as they ask Him to help them to make the right choices in their daily lives and learn that saying sorry and showing forgiveness is an important part of starting over in relationships with others.
All Saints Mass
On 30 October at 2pm in our School Hall we will be having an All-Saints Whole School Mass. This mass is a celebration of all the saints who are in heaven, through their good works on earth and through God's grace. Parents and grandparents are most welcome to join us.
Christmas Carols
Book this date in your diary now – OLM Parish Carols by Candlelight on Tuesday 26 November 6-7pm. Padbury Catholic Primary School and Whitfords Catholic Primary School together with Our Lady of the Missions Parish, will once again be holding Carols by Candlelight on the oval right near the church.
All families are invited to attend and enjoy carol singing and a picnic and sausage sizzles will be available. Please keep an eye out on your class Seesaw for further details from your class teacher and coordinator Mrs Twine.
Annual Community Meeting
The Annual Community Meeting for the P&F and Advisory Council and Volunteers Supper will be held on Wednesday 13 November in the school hall, commencing at 6.00pm.
Reasons you should come to the AGM:

- Office bearers for the Advisory Council and P&F will be elected (if required)
- 2025 staffing will be announced (if finalised). You will find out your child’s year group teachers for 2025
- 2025 school fees will be presented
- Focus areas for 2025 will be shared
- As a special thank you to all volunteers who have assisted in any way throughout the year such as P&F, Advisory Council, reading rosters, excursions, covering books, craft and the list goes on and on…You are invited to our Volunteers Supper at the commencement of the ACM. It is our way of saying thank you for all that you do at PCPS.
The P&F Executive have concluded their two years and are eligible to nominate for another two. I am pleased that all four members have indicated that they will be renominating for another two years. If however you feel that you would like to nominate for one of these roles - President, Vice, Treasurer or Secretary, please read the P&F Terms of Reference https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/parents-and-friends and forward the office an email addressed to me before 3pm 25 October with a paragraph about why you think you would make a suitable candidate. Voting would then occur on the night of the ACM as there would be more candidates than positions.
Three of our Advisory Council members have concluded their three years and are eligible to renominate for another three. I am pleased that all three members will be renominating for Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Our Advisory Council Chair concludes his term this year so there will be a vacancy for this role. Please read the AC Terms of Reference carefully https://www.cewa.edu.au/publication/catholic-school-advisory-council-terms-of-reference/ and if you feel you fulfil the criteria to become a member and take on the role of Chair, please forward the office an email, addressed to me, by 3pm 25 October with ½ page about your relevant experience and why you think you be suitable for this role. If there are multiple expressions of interest then you would be required to speak at the ACM and voting will take place on the night.

Child and Adolescent Community Health
Colour Blindness in Pre Primary Children
Children who are colour blind can see as clearly as other people but can’t tell the difference between some colours or see colours differently from other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours – most often they see red and green as very similar. It’s good to know if a child is colour blind because they may have difficulty at school with activities that use colours, such as drawing and sorting blocks, and with computers. Please read through information on colour blindness provided by Raising Children Network.
If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some General Practitioners (GP), eye specialists or optometrist. You can also contact your local Community Health Nurse, Taryn Osborne on 0417 745 258.
Scoliosis in Year 6
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be detected by a simple examination of the back. The normal spine has three curves – one in the neck, on in the upper back and one in the lower back. These curves can be seen from the side, but when you look from behind the spine should appear straight. If the spine has a sideways curve, this is scoliosis.
Please read through the scoliosis information provided by Raising Children Network and check your child for scoliosis as described.
If you have any concerns, please contact your General Practitioner or Community Health Nurse, Taryn Osborne on 0417 745 258.
