CHMS Weekly Update
October 20th - 24th, 2024
Early Release Day
Just a reminder that this Monday, October 21st is an early release day for students. The Early Release Schedule is linked below.
Second Step
What are we learning this week?
5th Grade - Unit 2: Emotion Management
Lesson 9: What Can I Change? - In this week’s lesson, your child will practice identifying things that a person can or can’t change in a recurring situation that causes them to feel a strong emotion. Then they will focus on the things that can be changed to recommend something the person could think or do differently to manage their emotions in the future.
Try this at home: Ask your child if there’s anything coming up at school that makes them feel a strong emotion, like nervous, frustrated, or stressed. Ask them what they could think or do differently to make the situation easier to handle.
6th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 9: Your Guiding Principles - In this week’s lesson, your child will identify some of their own guiding principles.
Try this at home: Ask your child to share some of their guiding principles. Ask what guiding principles they think are common in your household or extended family.
7th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 9: Your Self-Concept - In this week’s lesson, your child will describe multiple parts or pieces of their self-concept.
Try this at home: Tell your child about the way you see yourself. Describe different aspects of your self-concept, such as the way you see yourself at work vs. at home. Ask your child to describe their self-concept, including how they see themselves emotionally, physically, socially, or at school.
8th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 9: Sources of Confidence -In this week’s lesson, your child will learn about confidence—their belief in their ability to do something—and that there are four sources of confidence.
Try this at home: Tell your child about a time when you felt confident and then describe a time when you didn’t feel confident or when you increased your confidence. Ask your child what the four sources of confidence are.

From Last Week - Text Alerts
Our first test for text message alerts went out at 12:00 PM on Wednesday the 16th. Parents, if you did NOT receive the text message, please update your cell phone information by calling your child’s school or filling out this form.
Two more tests are scheduled for text message alerts on Oct 23 and Oct 30 at 12:00 PM. This allows all of our Warrior families time to update their contact information with the school if needed.
After our October rollout, text message alerts will only be used for urgent communications like school closures and delays, power outages, emergency cancellations, building lockdowns, etc.
