This workshop is designed to build capacity around
the factors that impact student attendance.
🌟Why Should Our Team Attend this Training?
The most recent federal data shows that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent- almost double pre-Covid-19 numbers. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused, or suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
- Children living in poverty are two to three times more likely to be chronically absent—and face the most harm because their community lacks the resources to make up for the lost learning in school.
- Students from communities of color as well as those with disabilities are disproportionately affected (Data sourced from Attendance Works)
The good news is: This is fixable! By attending this training your team will explore Chronic Absenteeism, its barriers and root causes, and potential solutions as well as learning about the new Chronic Absenteeism laws put into place in the 2024/2025 school year. Let's work together to get all kids into the classroom!
🌟Objectives:
- engage in learning that supports their collective understanding of attendance factors,
- explore root causes of chronic absence,
- analyze building attendance data,
- identify potential solutions to building-level attendance issues, and
- begin creating a plan to implement in-district.
