Week of October 7
Hello Trojan Families and Students,
We are coming up on the end of the first quarter on October 11th and progress grades should be available shortly after. Please continue to remind students to be in every class, be on time, and be an active participant. Just a reminder, we will be on Fall Break from October 14th-18th. As we enter the beginning of fall, our fall sports will be ending and winter sports will be beginning. Please reach out to Jeremiah Johnson for any information needed on our winter sports programs.
A couple of last minute reminders:
1). Please encourage your student to bring their charged device each and everyday.
2). Please do not use Washington Street as a drop off location for students.
3). The upper parking lot is solely for staff parking and a drop off/pick up for our students with disabilities. Please use the pick up/drop off location at the south end of the building for your student.
Charles Arellano
Principal
Thank you for your continued support of THS!
Career Readiness +Expanded Opportunities
Blueprint Funding Proposals, which will appear on this November’s ballot, resulted from more than a year-long engagement process to identify the community’s values and priorities for schools across the district. And student opportunities in career and technical education were high on the list!
Did you know? Nearly 10 percent of high school CTE students are on waitlists for high-demand CTE classes. Through Blueprint Funding Proposals, the district would add additional sections for these in-demand classes, offer new programs in emerging industries and bring exploratory CTE classes to middle school students.
Learn more about what investments our school and others would receive through Blueprint, visit adams12.org/funding-proposals
Voter Registration
The district has two funding measures on this November’s ballot. One is a bond to invest in our building, and the other is a mill levy override to invest in operations such as staffing and academic programming.
Take this opportunity to check your voter registration, and make sure it’s up-to-date with your current address! Visit govotecolorado.com
Save the Date! THS Hispanic/Latino Student Union & Metro State University's Journey Through Our Heritage Program's 4th annual Dia De Los Muertos commemoration & celebracion will be the evening of Monday November 4th. All are invited. More info to come!
Adams 12 Five Star Schools fosters the opportunity for students and families to participate in a celebration that is respectful of all cultures, religions, races and beliefs. In our efforts to maintain a respectful, safe and secure learning environment, the following guidelines have been developed for Halloween celebrations. These guidelines apply to students, staff, and participants in all Halloween celebrations – during and after the school day. Please contact your school administrator for information specific to your school.
Halloween Guidelines
These guidelines apply to all students, regardless of the learning model in which they are enrolled. Costumes may only be worn on Thursday, October 31, 2024, or at after-school events authorized by the designated school.
Costumes that would violate District Policy 5060: Student Dress Code will only be permitted if approved by an administrator before being worn at school. For safety reasons, masks or makeup must not cover the student's face in a way that makes them unrecognizable. Masks or makeup that hide a student's identity may be worn only during designated times, such as during a costume contest.
The following are not considered appropriate for school or school events:
-Costumes that are too graphic, promote violence or that could logically be offensive to others.
-Costumes that are sexually suggestive and that would otherwise violate the school's dress code
-Costumes with sound effects, lights or other components that will disrupt the learning environment in the classroom
-Costumes that could be considered insensitive to various races, cultures and religions.
-Toy or replica weapons of any kind are not permitted (guns, knives, swords, bats, etc.) in a manner that is not in alignment with District Policy 5060.
-Costumes that may be potentially harmful to the educational or school environment.
In accordance with District Policy 5060, school administrators may ask students or participants to change into school-appropriate attire and/or remove masks, makeup, or costumes.
Please note that district and school leadership will re-evaluate guidelines each year and make adjustments as necessary to ensure a safe celebration for the entire school community.

Finally, on Wednesday, October 23rd our school will be hosting a college fair with more than 35 colleges from all across Colorado and surrounding states. This is open to students in grades 11 & 12. Chromebooks
If you went to an Adams 12 school last year, you should have your district-issued chromebook and charger. Those were NOT collected at the end of the school year. If you are a new student, stop by the library and we will check out a device and charger for you.
All students should now have a Chromebook.
If your Chromebook is not working or damaged please bring it (and the charger) to school and visit the library. Ms. Smith and Ms. Ewell in the library will help you out. If your Chromebook is lost or stolen, stop by the library and we'll talk about next steps and check out another device for you.
All students are charged a Chromebook Insurance fee of $20, $10 for reduced lunches and $0 for free lunches. Damaged Chromebooks have a $5.00 fine for the first damage, $50.00 fine for the second damage and for each additional damage the charge is $75.00. To replace a lost Chromebook the cost is $150. If your Chromebook is stolen, you MUST fill out a police report and submit that to the District to not be charged. Chromebook chargers are $35 to replace through the District. If you need a new charger and want to pay less, you can use THIS LINK. You do not have to use this link or buy through Amazon. The charger must be a 45-watt USB-C Type charger.

Academic Support (Wednesday Mornings)
Academic Support is an opportunity for students to meet with teachers in order to make up work and receive additional assistance. All teachers are available to meet with students during Academic Support. Teachers will share meeting locations with students during the first week of class. Academic Support takes place on Wednesdays from 7:40 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Academic Support will begin on Wednesday, August 16th.
FREE/Reduce Lunch Program
Don't forget! You have to fill out an application every year.
Freshman will have 4th and 6th hour lunch. Upperclassmen will have 5th hour lunch. After a recent Colorado law was enacted, ALL students can receive free lunch. Still, it is IMPORTANT to submit an application for free or reduced benefits.
Help with School Fees: Apply for Free and Reduced Benefits
Free and reduced benefits help families and THS! Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced benefits for this school year. By applying for free and reduced benefits, families receive assistance and it helps our school too. Here are a few ways the benefits can help:
- THS can receive additional funding to enhance the educational experience for all students. ($1,280 per approved student)
- School fees can be waived or reduced. These include athletic fees, course fees and activity and field trip fees tied to curriculum.
- Students can receive assistance with post-graduation planning, scholarships, state and national testing (including SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate), and post-secondary enrollment.
- Families can qualify for additional resources, such as medical, food and cash assistance.
- Families can receive support with community services, such as internet, gym memberships, passes to museums and cultural events.
