Coupeville School District August 8, 2024
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!
Dear Coupeville Families and Community,
I am thrilled to introduce myself, Shannon Leatherwood, as your new Superintendent for the Coupeville School District!
I'm incredibly excited to begin this journey with you, and I'm fully committed to the strategic plan we have in place (included below). Our focus, as it should be, is on our students and ensuring each and every one of them receives a top-notch education that prepares them for their unique futures.
Instructional leadership is a passion of mine, and I believe in a collaborative environment where teachers and staff feel empowered to create the best possible learning experiences for our students. This summer, I've been working in collaboration with our Budget Manager on the district budget, prioritizing fiscal responsibility while ensuring we have the resources needed to support this goal.
You might also be interested to see the recent Washington Education Association publication (Spring 2024) that's included with this letter. Our very own Aimee Bishop is highlighted as the Education Support Professional of the Year! The article beautifully captures Aimee's dedication to ensuring every student who walks through our doors has the opportunity to succeed. It's a testament to the incredible staff we have here in Coupeville.
As I begin this journey, my top priority is to listen and learn. I want to hear from you, our families and community members, about your hopes and aspirations for your child(ren). Additionally, I believe data-driven decision making is crucial, so I'll be delving into district data to gain a comprehensive understanding of our needs. With this information, we can continue to work together to develop a concrete plan that ensures all our students have the opportunity for post-secondary education and reach their full potential.
I'm eager to get to know our Coupeville community and work together to serve our students in the best way possible. Please don't hesitate to reach out! I look forward to meeting you all and earning your trust as we work together for the success of our future generations.
Exciting News!
We also will launch a brand new website this week! We've designed it to be a one-stop shop for everything you need, with information organized in a clear and easy-to-find manner. Please check it out at https://www.coupeville.k12.wa.us/.This new website will launch on Friday. This was necessary because the former website company was purchased by this new company.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children.
Sincerely,
Shannon Leatherwood

Middle School/High School Update
Welcome New Assistant Principal: Erica McColl
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of Coupeville Middle and High School (CMHS). I am entering my 7th year as a school administrator, where I have served at the secondary level during those years. My passion lies in working with young minds and helping students discover their interests, set meaningful goals, and achieve success both academically and personally. My approach to education centers around empowering students to realize their full potential and guiding them through their journey of growth and exploration.
I live in Coupeville with my family, and I am excited to serve the community in which I reside. Outside of my professional role, I enjoy an active lifestyle that includes hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, and bike riding. I believe in the importance of a balanced and adventurous approach to life, which I strive to instill in the students I support.
As I step into this new role at CMHS, I am excited to see the positive impact we can make together. The Middle and High School years are full of change, growth, challenges, and rewards. I look forward to supporting our staff, students, families, and community as we navigate these milestones together. If you see me out and about on campus, or even at the grocery store, please stop and say hello!
Welcome to the 24/25 school year, it’s going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Erica McColl
CMHS Assistant Principal

Congratulations Class of 2024!
A Foundation for the Future:
Here at Coupeville School District, we believe in one powerful idea: Prepare every child for their future. Traditionally, college and career readiness might seem like something we focus on in high school. But the truth is, it's a journey that starts much earlier – right here in kindergarten and preschool!
Setting the Stage for Success
Every teacher, staff member, and administrator in our district is dedicated to one unifying goal: equipping our students with the tools they need to thrive, both inside and outside the classroom. This means fostering a love of learning, building strong foundations in core subjects, and nurturing the skills that will empower them in the years to come.
It's All About You, Coupeville!
This commitment to our students' futures isn't something we can achieve alone. It takes a village, and that village includes each and every one of you – our incredible Coupeville community. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey! There are countless ways you can get involved, from volunteering in classrooms to cheering on our students' achievements. Together, we can ensure every child has the foundation they need to build a bright future.
A Round of Applause for the Class of 2024!
Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate a truly remarkable group – the Coupeville Class of 2024! Whether they are enlisting in the military, jumping into the job force, or heading to trade school, college or university, I am incredibly proud of the work they have accomplished.
Thank you!
My deepest gratitude goes out to our dedicated staff who guided these students from their preschool years all the way through high school graduation. In the classroom or behind the scenes, the work they've done has helped pave the way for our students to learn, grow, and succeed. Congratulations to the Class of 2024, and thank you to our phenomenal staff who helped launch them on their journeys!
