Hansen Weekly Update
May 26th, 2024
This week was our first full week of Boosterthon Fundraiser Fun! Hank the Tank and Alligator Andy came to our school and helped us get excitement going for Boosterthon with a.m. and p.m. announcements and lunch time presentations and reminders! (see below pics). Students learned about the different classroom and school prizes that could be earned along the way, leading up to our Boosterthon Fun Run on May 29th. We thank you in advance for your support for our biggest fundraiser of the year!
This week, we also continued with the Hansen ABC Countdown to summer vacation. The countdown represents the last 26 days of the school year, beginning on May 9th (See information below). May is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Mrs. Kohl’s class colored and assembled a collaborative poster to hang over Mrs. Kohl’s AAPI artwork (below). Each week, Mrs. Kohl’s students are learning about different influential AAPI people and presenting to the class.
Finally, we'd like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day tomorrow, as our nation honors America's men and women who lost their lives in military service to our country. With no school on Monday, we will return to school on Tuesday, at 8:50 a.m.
Sincerely,
Paul McKnight

Dolan Flooring Co. Gives Mrs. Eckler's Class a Lesson in 'Area Measurement'
Dolan Flooring in Canton gave a hands on measurement lesson to the third graders this week. The students measured different things in the classroom to practice measurement, finding the area of the classroom, desks, etc. and also rounding and estimating lengths. The students enjoyed this 'real-world' lesson - Thank You, Dolan Flooring Company!
3rd Grade Classrooms Release Butterflies on Friday!
Students Watch as Butterflies take Flight!
As 3rd graders finished up their unit on life cycles, in early May, Mrs. Hickey and Mrs. DeMaggio's classes received seven caterpillars. Over the last two weeks the students were able to observe and document the complete life cycle of the painted lady butterfly (caterpillar/pupa stage, the chrysalis stage, and finally the butterfly). They were excited to find that overnight 7 butterflies had emerged! They were able to observe them for a day and watch how they dried their wings and drank "nectar". Today the class set them free so that the life cycle can continue!
5th Grade Enjoys Unity Day
Our 5th graders enjoyed 'Unity Day', where they meet up at Galvin Middle School with 5th graders from Luce and JFK, separated into groups with students from each school, and participated in various challenges: Tug-'o-war, Mile run, etc. They received a tour of GMS and had lunch there, helping them get familiar with their new school and future classmates this fall!
Hansen Field Day is Here!
Field Day is this Wednesday, and we are excited for a fun-filled day!
Parents who have reached out and been confirmed as volunteers with Ms. Amico are the only non-staff members who will be at Field Day. Since it's outdoors and active (a lot of fun and games) please encourage your student to either bring a water bottle to school or drink a lot of water that day - we will likewise be encouraging students to hydrate.
Thank you!
Important Traffic Reminder
Families, please DO NOT park on either side of Pecunit Street in front of our school during drop-off or dismissal - it is not safe and creates the potential for someone getting seriously hurt. Please park instead down the street past our playground, in the baseball parking lot, or at the Galvin Middle School parking lot if you are walking to the school for drop-off or pick-up. Thank you!
Important for Next School Year
Parents - If your family is moving, or attending a different school next year, please contact the Hansen Main Office at (781) 821-5085, and let us know so that we can make sure to give your child's Hansen school records to their new school or school district.
Thank you!
