Message from our Principal
Hello Prairie Rose families!
Our Panther Pride Assemblies continue to be a highlight each month as we come together to celebrate our amazing staff and students. These assemblies are a wonderful way to recognize outstanding achievements and positive behaviors that reflect our core values of being respectful, responsible, safe, kind, and caring. It’s inspiring to see how our students and staff consistently rise to meet these expectations, and we are so proud of our Prairie Rose community!
We are also looking forward to showcasing the incredible talents of our students at the Talent Show on April 2nd and 3rd. It’s sure to be a fun and exciting event that highlights the creativity and hard work of our talented students.
Students and staff are getting ready for another exciting event this month! On April 25th, we will be hosting our Career Café, where students will have the opportunity to learn about different careers from our parent presenters. This is a great chance for students to expand their horizons and gain career awareness for their future. This event also aligns with our district strategic plan for career development.
Lastly, we continue to encourage family involvement through our Parent Teacher Club (PTC). We are always looking for new members to help plan and support our school activities. Your involvement makes a huge difference!
Thank you for your continued support of our school and students. Let’s keep that Panther Pride strong!
Warm regards,
Dr. Tabby Rabenberg

Celebrating Literacy & Staying Safe Online
Spring is here, and with it comes a renewed excitement for reading and learning! This month, we’re focusing on literacy promotion and how we can support our children in navigating online interactions safely and kindly.
Literacy Spotlight: Keep Kids Reading!
April is the perfect time to encourage reading with fun activities and events. Here are some ideas to promote literacy at home:
- Poetry Month Celebration: April is National Poetry Month! Explore poetry books together, try writing your own poems, or have a family poetry reading night.
- Reading Outdoors: As the weather warms up, take books outside! Reading at the park or in the backyard can make stories even more engaging.
- Library Visits: Encourage kids to check out new books and series from the library. Ask them what they’re interested in and help them find a book that sparks their curiosity.
- Audiobooks & Read-Alouds: Listening to stories is a fantastic way to build comprehension and vocabulary. Try audiobooks during car rides or before bedtime.
Fighting Cyberbullying & Digital Drama
As kids spend more time online, it’s essential to help them develop healthy digital habits. Here are some Commonsense Media tips to help families navigate online interactions:
- Define Cyberbullying – Teach kids that cyberbullying is repeated, unwanted mean or hurtful behavior online, whether in texts, social media, or games.
- Check in on Online Life – Just like you ask about their school day, talk about their online experiences. Ask who they chat with and how they feel about their interactions.
- Role-Play Responses – If kids encounter negativity online, help them practice safe and respectful ways to respond or disengage.
- Encourage Upstanding – Teach kids to stand up for others by offering support, reporting inappropriate behavior, or speaking up against hate speech.
- Take Breaks – Help kids set screen-time limits, take breaks from digital devices, and prioritize face-to-face interactions.
- Know the Next Steps – If cyberbullying happens, teach kids to step away, save evidence, block offenders, and report incidents to a trusted adult.
By fostering a love for reading and teaching kids how to be responsible digital citizens, we can help them grow into thoughtful and resilient learners.
Happy reading, and let’s work together to keep our kids safe and engaged online!
Nurse's Note - Shyla Suchy, RN
April Showers Bring May Flowers and Allergy & Asthma Season! 🤧
If you suffer from allergies, you know the symptoms: coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and scratchy throat. Common allergens and irritants found in and around the home are dust mites, mold, insect droppings, pet dander, and secondhand smoke. Exposure to these allergens can even bring about a serious asthma attack.
During an asthma attack, airways become narrowed, and breathing can become extremely difficult. Other asthma triggers include respiratory infections, pollen (trees, grasses, weeds) air pollution, food, cleaning products, perfumes, exercise, and cold air exposure. Common asthma symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma cannot be cured but it can be controlled.
Please fill out an allergy or asthma action plan for your child if needed – these forms are available in the nurse’s office or by clicking the "Health Plans" link below!
Talk to your pediatrician about the best daily management for your child’s symptoms.
Sunscreen & Insect Repellent
Sunscreen and insect repellent are not medication and therefore, do not require a written authorization from parent/guardian. However, any product that is applied to the body (skin) must be provided by the parent or guardian. The school cannot provide sunscreen or insect repellent because products applied to the skin can cause irritation or rash, and in very few instances, a serious allergic reaction. We do not always know which children have sensitivities to these products. The recommended practice is for a student to come to school with these products already applied. If deemed necessary, these products can be brought to school, but wipes or lotions would be preferred over sprays. For those with sun or insect allergies, pants, long sleeve tops, and shoes that cover the feet are encouraged to be worn.
