Around the School Spotlight
Our Fun Run today was AMAZING! Perfect running weather, incredible support from family & community members and a great effort by all of our kids. What a fun way to end the month! We have earned $43,023 as of this afternoon! Our goal for the OMSI field trip is $65,000, can we do it? We have one more week left to raise funds.
A HUGE thank you to Katie Kearn, Torin Pulfrey, our PAC and all the volunteers who showed up. This would not have happened without your time, energy and efforts. We are so lucky to have you at Hawks View!
Smart Watches
We have had numerous students texting and calling from their smart watches during the school day. For a variety of reasons, this creates a distraction to the learning environment for other students, our staff and the student engaging with their watch. Below is the language around these devices; as taken from the Parent/Student Handbook Addendum.
We ask that parents always call the office with any changes of going home plans, etc. We are happy to help with getting information to your child during the school day!
Smart watches may be worn at school, but they should remain off during school hours. If they are a distraction to the learning environment, we will ask that they be stored in a child’s backpack during school hours. If, after a reminder to turn the device off/place in backpack, students are texting or talking on a smart watch, we will defer to the steps in our cell phone policy: First offense will result in the teacher holding the watch until the end of the day, second offense will result in the device being held in the office until a parent can arrange a time to retrieve it.

Club News
Passport club had their first check in this week where students showed off their knowledge of geography. Chess club will start in November! We had our first popcorn Friday this month where every student was given popcorn for a fun snack. If you have any interest in getting involved in our schools programs please email Jesse Galloway at programs@hawksviewpac.org .
Help-Counter Volunteer Information
This year, all volunteers will need to use the HelpCounter app to sign in as a volunteer. If you haven’t already done so, please set up an account. Past volunteers can use their old sign in, but you may need to log out and back in to see current year information. (Please note that this link does not work well on your phone so you will need to use another device).
HelpCounter is also how we get the word out about volunteer opportunities, sign-ups and track volunteer hours. If you plan to volunteer at events or in the classroom, sign up now! You can find information regarding the free app here.
ALL parents will need to fill out their information each year. The registration will also ask some questions about volunteer preferences, so please take a minute to answer those as well.
Questions? Email volunteers@hawksviewpac.org.
Background Checks
All volunteers will also need to complete and have an approved background check on file prior to volunteering (this must be renewed each school year). The background check process can take 7-10 business days, so please allow sufficient time if you are planning to volunteer for a specific event.
Save the Date!
Our next Dinner Night Out (DNO) is October 19th at MOD Pizza. More information to follow soon.
