Brynecia Hugs Joins the 1,000 Point Club!
By Caroline Monroy
The 2024-2025 Lady Warriors’ season has been a breakout year for junior Brynecia Hugs. Averaging 30 points per game and dominating on both ends of the floor, she has been the heart and soul of the Lady Warriors.
Her 1,000-point game was a milestone moment not just for her, but for the entire Plenty Coups community. When Brynecia scored the basket that put her over the mark, the crowd erupted in celebration.
From her early days on the court, it was clear that Brynecia had a special connection with the game. Growing up in Bapuua, she developed a love for basketball, quickly turning heads with her natural abilities.
As a freshman, she wasted no time making her mark on the Plenty Coups varsity team, and by the time she hit her sophomore year, she had already established herself as one of the top players in the league.
Her ability to score from anywhere on the floor—whether driving to the basket, shooting from long-range, or sinking free throws under pressure—has made her an offensive juggernaut. But beyond her scoring, it’s her basketball IQ and leadership that have earned her respect from teammates, coaches, and opponents alike.
Lady Warriors Basketball
By Kloe Cummins
The Lady Warriors started off their season at the All American Indian Shootout at the Metra. They defeated both Lodge Grass and Hardin’s junior varsity teams. They then go on to play at the 2024 Manhattan Bank Tip Off Tournament. The team then has a record of 4-0, as they blew past both Twin Bridges and Gardener.
The Lady Warriors played two tough games against the Lodge Grass Lady Indians. One of the games was before the holiday break, where they would defeat the Indians at home with a score of 78-61. After the break, the team would go on to Lodge Grass for the away game. They would win, 69-64. Both were very close games among one of the biggest rivalries on the Crow Reservation.
The Lady Warriors headed to Harlowtown where junior Brynecia Hugs would go on to hit her 1,000 career points! The girls team would cruise by the Engineers at both home and away games.
As of January 1, the team would be ranked 5th in the Montana class C rankings. Less than two weeks later they took the 3rd spot in the rankings, they were 8-0. On January 18, the team would extend their record to 10-0 beating Bridger and Roberts.
Opinion: Basketball and Me!
By Jaycee Demontiney
I was so happy when the 2024-2025 basketball season began! I honestly didn’t care whether I was going to be on the varsity or junior varsity Lady Warriors team. I made the JV team and I still got playtime.
I am so happy when my parents come to my games. It feels so good to give to God. I focus myself to get my classwork done, then go home and chill, eat or go to Billings to go shooting around and work out with my brother. It is really fun for me and I love spending time with my family. They make me feel good about myself.
I just keep trying to better myself at both school and basketball (and cross country, too!) so I can go on to college after graduation.
Black Buffalo Cave
By Anayah Bull Shows
The Black Buffalo Cave is located off of Sage Creek near Pryor Gap Road. It is known at Teton Jackson's Cave.
On the rear wall of the cave is a painting of a black Buffalo that is reached by the light from the setting sun for about a week at the Winter Solstice.
A few weeks before the Winter Solstice, Mr. Prinzing's Native American Studies Class went to visit the Black Buffalo Cave.
First, I didn't want to go because I knew it was going to be cold and windy and wasn't in the right clothes (even though Mr. Prinzing reminded us several times to dress warmly and even bring a blanket). Mr. Prinzing asked the Principal McCrea if we could stay behind but the principal said that since it was part of a class and for a grade, we had to go...sadly. On the way there, it was bumpy but I was alright. I didn't really care. We stopped to leave gifts for the Little People and ask for safe passage.
When we arrived we had to hike up a steep hill to reach the cave. It was hard to go up. I was tired, but my cross country skills prepared me with strength and endurance to reach out goal. When we go to the top it looked nice and I was taking in the view. It was beautiful! All those guys were making the fire but I wasn't because I didn't want to.
The food was good. It was all organic because Mr. Prinzing is a healthy man. I liked the chips and cookies but we also got bananas. The view was so beautiful I took pictures.
I wanted to leave then because it was cold and we had basketball practice. But then they were taking forever so I went down to the creek and there was ice and it looked yummy! So I did ASMR. They finally came down the hill and we headed back with no music. It was quiet but I just talked to Mr. Prinzing on the way back. We stopped again to thank the Little People for a safe trip into the mountains.
Project Based Learning: AC Battle Signage

Arrow Creek Battle Signage

As a whole class we split up into three groups to get the main project done faster.
The first day we all went to see how vandalized it was. There were many bullet holes and it was weathered.
The next week we went and chipped all the old paint off the curb so we could repaint it.
The first group was tasked with collecting all the information about the battle. The second group was tasked with creating new designs for a new visual at the battlegrounds. The third group were tasked with finding sponsorships to get what we needed.
Overall, we completed what needed to be done such as repainting the curbs, getting new visuals at the battlegrounds and cleaning all the trash from around the area for when tourists come and visit.
