Update from the Garden
Our garden committee members and our students have been hard at work in our school garden! The team of teachers, staff members, committee members, community partners, and our students have been planting new items, tending to seedlings, and measuring the growth! We are in need of more staff members to join the team and help us in planting, tending, and harvesting. We are so excited to see what growth will happen over the summer. Luckily, we are a summer school site, and our community partners will help us keep the garden going strong!
Mr. Farmer and Ms. Butler worked very hard to obtain fruit bushes, and they were planted this week! Check out their beautiful new placement, and make sure to check back in once we are ready to harvest raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries!! We also have a gorgeous new herb garden growing in one of our beds, and our student beds are also beginning to show the very first signs of life above dirt!
Highlights around the building
Specialty Books
Auneur discovered one of my specialty books in my office library that unfolds to reveal a full house! If your students love pop-up books or other special surprises, send them my way for a reading session!
Boomer Boards
Ms. Webb tested our new boomer boards that will be debuted next year as part of our Healthy Schools Healthy Communities grant. The concept is to get kids (and staff!) moving and feeling healthy!
Artistic Snakes
Ms. Butler's students proudly showed off their snake art on their way home this week. The snakes were extremely bouncy and colorful!
Covid Protocols
Our school remains COVID-FREE!!! We have been incredibly strict with our protocols at Patrick Henry and as a result, we have had ZERO student cases of Covid. We are so proud of our students for keeping their masks on and remaining socially distant. Keep it up!
Andrew's Snake
Andrew's snake had an incredible number of curls to it and the flouncy factor made it not only artistic but also incredibly fun.
Field Trips!
Patrick Henry Goes to the Zoo
Over the last two weeks, Ms. Jackson's third graders, Ms. Fales and Ms. Teska's first and second graders, and Ms. Von Behren's fifth graders were able to go on their first in-person field trip of the school year. All three groups took a trip to the St. Louis Zoo and they had an incredible time! Fifth grade got to experience the sting rays, first/second grade got to experience the dinosaurs, and third grade had the truly unique experience of rescuing an animal in need. Third grader, Kerion, noticed an animal in an enclosure that looked like it was in distress. The class notified a Zoo employee, who immediately jumped into action to help the animal. It was a beautiful moment of our students seeing an animal in need and figuring out exactly the right thing to do! As a result, the gazelle received the care it needed, and our students got to feel like local heroes. We are so proud of them for their kind and caring attitude, and for their attention to detail. It was truly special!
