Hidden In Plain Sight - Parent & Community Engagement Series - March 20th
Parents, or anyone who has a relationship with teens, know there’s a lot to keep up with in the fast moving world of young adults. The latest trends in fashion, video games, music, social media outlets…the list seems endless. But what about trends in drug and alcohol use? Would you even know what they are, or what to look for?
Well there’s help with that. “Hidden in Plain Sight, Telling Their Secrets,” a program developed by The Council on Alcoholism and Addictions of the Finger Lakes is designed to help parents, teachers and others learn about current local drug trends. Even if your child is not using drugs or alcohol, this program provides information that is important for anyone who has a relationship with young adults.
As part of the program, adults are taken through a replica of a teen’s bedroom to identify objects that could signal possible warning signs of substance use. It's an eye-opening interactive experience that really helps raise awareness to the less obvious signs, such as vaping devices made to look like everyday household items.
In order for the program to run, we need at least 15 participants to sign up by registering using the QR code on the flyer below. It is completely free and there will be pizza! You also do not have to be a resident in the district to attend, so if you have friends and family outside of Gananda, please feel free to share this with them as well.
25 Week Interim Ineligibility Report
The next ineligibility list will be published on Friday, 3/14. As a reminder from the Student Handbook, students who are failing one or more subjects will be considered ineligible to participate in athletic competitions, drama and school clubs for a minimum of one week after report cards or progress reports are published.
Students may regain their eligibility status by bringing all their grades back to passing and completing the “Ineligibility Sign-Off Google Form” from the Counseling Office secretary at the end of the minimum one-week probation period. If a student is still failing classes at the end of the one week ineligibility period, they may sign a Work Ethic Contract with their teachers. As long as students maintain good effort towards bringing their grades up, they will regain eligibility.
Grade level teams will also be mailing home letters on March 14 for students that are at risk of failing any of their core courses for the school year. We hope this encourages students to improve their performance before the end of the school year and avoid having to go to summer school or repeat courses next year. We appreciate your help in encouraging your student to take advantage of extra help from their teachers during Advisement or after school during 5th block.

Tardy to School Policy
Please continue to remind your child/children that they need to be in class by 7:30am. As we progress further into the school year, and now with the winter weather, we often see an increase in tardies to school. If your child is making a stop to Dunkin' or Starbucks on their way in to school, please remind them to build in enough time to make those stops so they are not late to school. We appreciate your support in helping to reinforce the importance of punctuality!
Please note that after 4 unexcused tardies in a marking period, contact home will be made, and students will be assigned consequences starting with lunch detention and/or after school detention.
