Butte is in the News again...the District News that is!
More good news to share with you:
Butte Elementary made the District's Educator of the Month list for January, which is kind of a big deal :) . They sent a team out last week to film our school and some of our amazing teacher's. I think the video turned out really well, and in case you missed it you can watch it for yourself by clicking the button below. Moments like this highlight how lucky we are to have such an amazing principal leading our school, with teachers and staff who are doing everything they can to help our students succeed.
I've always said Butte Elementary is one of the best kept secret's in the Valley....but it looks like the secret is getting out.
Parent Teacher Conference
We look forward to connecting with you during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on February 10 and February 17. Our goal is to meet with 100% of our families, as these conferences provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. Together, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
During our discussions, we will review homework expectations and emphasize the importance of daily reading and fact fluency practice at home. We will also share practical strategies to help reinforce learning beyond the classroom, fostering a supportive environment for academic growth.
You will be hearing from your child’s teacher this week to schedule your conference. Conferences can be held in person, over the phone, or via Zoom to best accommodate your schedule. We encourage you to take advantage of this time to discuss your child's progress and ways to support their learning at home.
Your involvement plays a crucial role in your child's success, and we truly appreciate your commitment to their education. We look forward to meaningful conversations and working together to support your child's learning journey.

Title 1 Parent Engagement Survey
Dear MSBSD Staff & Parents,
Does your child attend a Title I school, or do you work in one? We want your input!
Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey about Title I Parent and Family Engagement. Your feedback helps our district improve services and will be shared with your school’s Principal to better meet your needs.
The survey is open from January 31st through February 15th.
Thank you for your time and valuable input!
We have some "MathCraniac's" in our Math Bandit program. The students listed have met their end of 4th quarter math fact fluency goal and are moving on to the next grade level standards!

How exciting to see them increase their math skills. When you see them in the hall, make sure to congratulate them on achieving their math goals. Keep up the hard work guys. You are amazing and setting a great example for others to follow!
We are working on Responsibility at Butte Elementary
We have been working hard in our school to become more RESPONSIBLE. Each week we are focusing on a new character trait that will help us become more and more responsible in class and in life.
When a student is responsible all day they get to move up the Responsibility Chart from the letter R to Y. When a student reaches the Y they get special privileges in class and within our school. The kids are VERY excited about this program! Please ask your student if they were responsible in class today.
Due to a change in how our district dismisses students, our front doors will remain locked from 3:30-4:00pm. However, if you need to pick your child up during this time just call the office and let Ms Krista know. She will call your student down for you. Please be patient, 330-400 is the busiest time in the office and you may have to wait a little bit before she can help you. Thanks for both your patience, and your understanding.

Ways to Help Your Child with Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension means to understand what you’re reading, not just read the words on the page. Understanding what is read is the goal of reading for our students. Here are some ways you can help your child comprehend their reading at home:
Have them summarize what they’ve read
Ask them questions about what they’re reading (character, setting, what happened in the beginning, middle, or end)
Have them make predictions about what will happen next in the story
Draw or write about their favorite part of the story
Write a letter to the author or a favorite character
Write a book review
Discuss the author’s purpose for writing (to entertain, to teach, or to persuade)
Draw pictures of the beginning, middle, and end of the story
Have them write a different ending to the story
Ask which character they liked best and why

This will be the last week of archery for grades 3-5. Things are moving smoothly for third grade as their confidence in shooting continues to grow. Our archery team of 22 fourth and fifth graders have been working hard gearing up to the tournament on Monday the 17th. Wish them luck! After this week, grades 1-5 will all be outside for the 3 weeks leading up to spring break. Please make sure your child is coming to school with proper gear, especially grades 3-5 who have PE in the morning before the sun warms the temp up. Fingers crossed we get some snow. This may be the first year we don't have enough to ski or snowshoe.
Mrs McClain always has a lot going on in her class; way too much happening to simply post about it here. Please click the link below, to go directly to her homepage so you can see for yourself everything that's going on!
New Dismissal Program - Pikmykid
It looks like it's time to update our school dismissal program! From this moment on we will be using Pikmykid across the district. If you haven't already downloaded the app, please do so before school starts. This will be the only way to change dismissal for your students from now on. Information on how to download the app can be found online at Pikmykid, or use the link below.
**Please note that you must use the same phone number you used to register your child on synergy. It won't work unless the numbers match**
Student Permission for Library Check Out Procedures
We want to keep you informed about an important update to ensure you have control over your student's library reading choices in the MSBSD.
Why Is This Important? Under Board Policy 6020, the School Board recognizes parents and guardians as key stakeholders in their children’s education—they are their children's first and most influential teachers. Parental engagement in the education of children contributes greatly to student achievement and conduct. In congruence with this and other Board Policies, the District is providing this option to parents so that they can be involved in their student’s reading choices.
What's Changing? In our ongoing efforts to empower parents, MSBSD now offers the option for parents to require permission before their student(s) can check out books from the school’s library.
How Does This Work? If you wish to require parent permission for your student to check out any book from the library, please review the process detailed below (no action needed if you’re not interested in required parent approval). This option is available in ParentVUE and instructions for requiring permission are attached to this letter. If you need support, please contact your student’s school or the IT call center (761-4357) Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM
Here is an overview of the process for students who require parent permission before checking out any library books:
1. Parent checks “yes” in Synergy requiring parent permission (ParentVUE).
2. Student selects book(s) at school.
3. Student picks up form from librarian and takes the form home to be signed by the parent.
4. If approved by parents, students will return the form to the librarian.
5. Student proceeds to check out the book(s).
Thank you for your cooperation. Your active participation in your student's education is highly valued. We appreciate your cooperation in making informed decisions about your student's reading selections. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher. We are here to support you and ensure a positive learning experience for your student

Weather is Changing, but Recess is Still Outside
Remember to dress your kids appropriately for the weather. Students go outside for PE, as well as recess. The only time they stay in, is if it gets below -10F. So remember to dress them warm and keep them dry. :)
