New Field ES Weekly Updates
Week 20: January 27-31, 2025
Dear New Field families,
As the first week of the new presidential administration comes to a close, I know that many of us may be feeling a sense of anxiety, particularly our immigrant families. As shared last week, New Feld is committed to protecting the rights of ALL students to have to a free public education, regardless of their immigration status or the immigration status of their family, has not and will not change.
As a reminder, in accordance with the Illinois Trust Act and the Welcoming City Ordinance, Chicago Public Schools:
- DOES NOT ask for our families' immigration status.
- WILL NOT coordinate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
- DOES NOT share student records with ICE, except in the rare case where there is a court order or consent from the parent/guardian.
- WILL NOT allow ICE agents access to CPS facilities unless they produce a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge.
- WILL NOT admit ICE agents into our schools based upon an administrative warrant, an ICE detainer, or other document issued by an agency enforcing civil immigration law.
In times like these, it’s important that we look out for one another. I encourage everyone to connect and support each other within our community. We are so fortunate to be in the Rogers Park community where many community based organizations are here to help and support:
- Thursday, Jan. 30, 5:30 p.m.: The Indo-American Center’s Ek Saath will be hosting a Community Inauguration Debrief at the center located at 6328 N California Ave. Please RSVP here.
I am humbled to work alongside such a dedicated staff who go above and beyond every day, not just to educate our students, but to care for and protect them. If you have any questions, needs, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of our school staff. We are here to support you in every way we can.
Warmly,
Conrey Callahan
Principal, New Field ES
