SCHOOL EVENTS
Wellness Night This Week
GWC would like to invite you to our annual Wellness Night! This event will offer Mental Health and Physical Health strategies to enhance your overall wellness. We will have our District Mental Health Specialist, Mr. Hersey, sharing some mental health information and our Physical education teacher, Mr. Helmburg, leading a pound fitness class! There will also be several vendors set up for additional outside support to help you take your next step in your wellness journey.
You don’t want to miss this!

THE FAMILY RESOURCE CORNER
Needs Assessment
In an effort to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our families, we are seeking your feedback. Your input is invaluable in helping us ensure that our scholars receive the assistance they need. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey below.
FACE Team
Parents and Families, do you have a suggestion or idea that you would like to share? We would love to hear them! Our Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team consists of a team of an administrator, parent representative, community representative (open seat), educators, counselors, FACE Liaison, and Family Liaison. We meet monthly and work to support our students and families.
If you have a suggestion or idea as it relates to communication, community support/partnerships, and/or what you'd like to see at our school, we welcome those in the form of an email directed to our parent representative, Christin Jones (2nd grade scholar, Easton Wilson's mom). She will present those at the meeting, and we will discuss them and determine how we will move forward.
If you would like to share anything, please email Christin Jones at christinjones.cj@gmail.com by the meeting dates listed below:
- December 4
- January 8
- February 5
- March 5

FAMU Session Coming Soon
On November 21 from 5:30-7:30pm, the FCPS Family and Community Engagement Department will host Family University “Special Programs Parent Panels”. This event will be held at our Family Connection Center-North (1625 Russell Cave Road). This will be an opportunity for families across the district to come and hear from families who currently have students enrolled in our various district programs, and receive advice and guidance that will help them decide which schools to learn more about at Innovative Programs Showcase in the spring.
VOLUNTEERS
Fayette County Public Schools and GWC invites families to participate in our educational community! We need all kinds of volunteers to help make sure our scholars have an enriching experience in the classroom and beyond. For more information about volunteering in FCPS, please follow this link.

ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year.
