A Personal Message from Mrs. Wiegand
I wanted to share a personal update regarding my schedule for the next few weeks. Due to a need to help care for a family member who is recovering from a serious injury, I will be reducing my schedule temporarily. I will be out of the building for the bulk of each morning throughout the rest of February, but will return to Edison during the afternoons.
Please know that our school will be in excellent hands. We have a fabulous leadership team at Edison. Ms. Provost, our 21C/HEART teacher, will be serving as a Teacher-in-Charge in the office each morning. Ms. Provost’s Y5, KDG, & 4th-6th grade 21st Century courses, along with her 4th-6th grade HEART courses will be taught by Ms. Kimberly Duhaime, a long-time guest teacher in Fraser. Additionally, our other Teachers-in-Charge, Mrs. Frazier and Mrs. Kapanka, will continue to help administratively, as their schedules allow.
I will remain actively involved in daily operations and will be available to support our students, staff, and families. I look forward to collaborating with Ms. Provost, along with Mrs. Frazier and Mrs. Kapanka, in a new capacity during this time.
Our school community means so much to me and I am grateful for your support.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Wiegand
Valentine's Spirit Week- February 10-14
Social Studies Olympiad Marathon Project
Upcoming $1 Spirit Days & $1 Sales to Benefit Children's Hospital
A group of 4th grade students are completing a Marathon Project for Social Studies Olympiad. For this project, they've planned events to raise money for the purchase of toys and supplies for patients at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
This week, they've planned the following events:
Kids Heart Challenge- Continues This Week

We're so excited to formally invite our 1st-3rd grade families to this year’s “Spring” Vocal Music Concert, What a Colorful World!
All family and friends are welcome to join us at the Fraser High School Auditorium to enjoy lovely music presented by 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade on Monday, February 24th, 2025. Admission is free.
Students are expected to be at Fraser High School at 6:30pm to warm-up for our concert at 7:00pm.
Concert attire:

3rd Grade: Color Blue
Students may dress in the color associated with their grade level. Students should follow the school dress code for their outfit choice.
On the morning of the concert, students will be bussed to the Fraser High School Auditorium to practice for our concert at 9:15am and arrive back to Edison Elementary around 10:45am.
Please make sure to fill out the permission slip linked below (and given to your student) to ensure all students can practice with us the morning of the concert. Return by Monday, February 10th.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our music teacher, Mrs. Esquible.
Dress For The Weather
The Snow Is Here!
The snow has arrived, which is great fun for the kids at recess! This means students will need proper snow gear at recess. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather and with boots and snow pants each day.
In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum. All items that have a name on them will be returned the same day they are lost.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 25 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons

Parking Lot Reminders
Please Do Not Park/Idle/Stop in Marked Areas
- Please adhere to our 5mph speed limit in our parking lot. We've recently received several reports of cars driving too fast in the parking lot at arrival/dismissal time. Please drive slowly and use caution!
- We do not have crossing guards for our parking lot. Our Y5-2 students must be accompanied by an adult through the parking lot. However, it is highly recommended that all parents park their cars and walk up to retrieve their students to escort them through the lot at dismissal time.
- Unfortunately, we don’t have a “bus loop” at Edison, which also limits our ability for a curbside drop off/pick up lane. Our transportation department needs us to stop stopping/parking/idling in the areas marked with a red 'x' (essentially, every turn/curve of the lot) because the busses cannot get through.
- Please park in a designated parking spot at arrival and dismissal, while you wait to drop off/pick up your children.
- All Y5-2nd grade students must be picked up by an adult at their doors.
- 3rd-6th grade students are dismissed out their doors and may navigate the parking lot as their parents see fit. Please note, our staff does our best to help kids cross when possible, but we do not have designated crossing guards in our lot. The safest option will always be for parents to park, walk up, drop off/retreive their child(ren), and navigate the lot with their child(ren).
- At dismissal time, please don’t sit idle in driving lane while waiting for your student.
PTO Updates
Introducing Our PTO Officers
This year, our PTO will be led by the following officers. As always, we're so appreciative of the parents that take time out of their lives to enrich ours! Please consider joining forces with the amazing moms below to help make Edison a happier place!

- Vice President: Lisa Heckman
- Treasurer: Cierra Prophit
- Secretary: Melissa Loder
Our next PTO Meeting will take place on Thursday, February 27 at 12:30PM in the Edison Media Center.
A Few School Policies & Procedures To Make Note Of:
Attendance
Your child's lifelong school/work attendance habits are being deeply established right now. Parents should make every effort to get their child to school by 8:30AM each day and allow them to stay for the full duration of every day. Excessive absences, tardies, and early dismissals hugely impact a child's confidence, social interactions, and school performance.
Birthday Treats
Birthday students may bring store-bought, individually wrapped treats/snacks or trinkets to distribute to their classmates to be taken home. Please do not send in a tray of cupcakes, homemade baked goods, pizza, etc intending for them to be consumed at school- as many students have dietary restrictions that need to be closely monitored by their parents & school staff. All treats/trinkets will be sent home with students.
Cell Phones
Hot Food Deliveries
Please do not plan to drop off "hot lunches" for your child at lunch time. This includes parents/family members dropping off fast food and/or Door Dashing food for their children. It is very logistically challenging to ensure that your child receives the food delivery on time and often results in students spending much of their lunch period awaiting a delivery.
