Dragons' Diary Week of May 19th
Mental Health Awareness Week was May 5- May 9!
Mental Health Awareness Week was May 5- May 9! To recognize Mental Health Awareness week, Sea Dragons enjoyed a parent-led ‘mini retreat’ all of last week. During lunch recess, students could choose to participate in an activity every day that highlighted different ways we can calm our minds and bodies. There was beautiful sand art and mandala drawing, a sound healing session, meditation, mindfulness with our 5 senses and yoga. Most of all, there was plenty of laughter, shared wisdom, deep breaths and calm, happy faces.

Fundraising Update
Big news! We are only $3,000 away from reaching our first goal of $60,000!
$60,000 means 3 classroom aides just for Linwood Howe next year. The school is still waiting to hear how many additional aides the District will provide.
$50, $100, $300 - whatever is in your budget this spring will help us go from $57,000 to $60,000. We know everything is increasingly expensive right now. The amount that is meaningful and doable for your family is enough and greatly appreciated.
As a reminder, classroom aides make it possible for teachers to break the class up into smaller groups for more focused learning at your child's level, whether it is needing extra help or advanced work. They also help teachers prep for the learning activities of the day making it possible for your child's teacher to do more.

Southern California’s Native American Tribes presentation for 4th graders
Southern California’s Native American Tribes presentation for 4th grader
In an effort to provide an enriching learning experience for Lin Howe’s Fourth Grade students, the LH Equity Committee is excited to welcome Stephanie Guadron – LH Alum & Parent, Native American community member and Board of Directors President of So'oh-Shinálí Sister Project to provide a presentation on May 21st about a few of Southern California’s Native American Tribes. Students will explore the unique histories, cultural traditions, and present-day movements of Chumash Tribes, the Gabrielino/Tongva Nation, and the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians. We encourage families to explore learning about local tribes by visiting some of the resources listed below! Please note that there are many local tribes in the Los Angeles region and the list below is not inclusive of every tribe. We encourage families to continue the conversation at home! Here are two questions to ask your child after the presentation:
- What was something surprising or new you learned about one of the local Native American tribes?
- Did you hear any stories, traditions, or facts that made you think differently about where we live?

RIDWELL PLASTIC FILM DRIVE:
RIDWELL PLASTIC FILM DRIVE:
Thank you so much for supporting Lin Howe's plastic-film drive partnering with Ridwell. We kept a whole bunch of plastic out of the landfill and every bit counts. We’re proud of you Sea Dragons!
There’s still time to sign up for the membership drive if you're interested. Each new Ridwell household saves an average of 100 pounds of waste from landfills every year. If just 9 more families start a new Ridwell membership through this page by May 23, we'll earn free Ridwell plastic film pickups for the entire ‘25/’26 school year!
