A Note from Dr. Miles,
Good morning Parents and Guardians!
With a rainy and soggy May weekend behind us along with the PSSAs, we must continue to keep moving forward with sunshine on our minds as we near the end of the school year.
One thing for sure is that we had a great time at the spring dance on Friday evening. Shimpy's BBQ truck was popular and the DJ's music and line dancing tips kept everyone's feet stepping, but the pony rides were the biggest hit of the night. Yet, the happiness and fun of the dance could NOT have happened without the full-fledged super organized planning of MISS BOWMAN! She continues to make certain that every aspect of our spring dances are covered at top notch quality. Job WELL DONE Miss Bowman! On behalf of all of We surely APPRECIATE your vision for the dance and dedication to manifest it the way you envisioned it.
While the PSSA assessments we take annually will provide the state with information about how our 3-5 grade students are performing in ELA and math, Acadience does the same for us at King's Highway. However our students in K-5, are monitored three times a year (beginning, middle, and end) in reading and math. Since the light is at the end of the tunnel, we have started the end of year assessments. Again, we want our student to do their absolute best and take these tests seriously to show their academic growth over the school year. Your requested task: Reinforce lots of encouragement to your child to try hard and do their best.
ABSENCES: YOUR CHILD'S PRESENCE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO US!
Parents please be advised that when your child is absent from school, you MUST have a note explaining their absence when they return. You have three days to have the note into the office. If a note is not received in that time, it becomes an ILLEGAL/UNLAWFUL absence. You may send the note directly to the attendance secretary Ms. Kenisha Archey-Cole at archeycolek@casdschools.org. Sending notes with your child may not be received as they may forget to give them to their teacher.
LOST AND FOUND: Thank you to the parents who have come and checked the lost and found for some items that may have been left at school by your child. With the days counting down, I ask that you have your child go to the lost and found if they come home without clothing that belongs home with them. As an FYI, we will be donating all items that have not been claimed at the end of the school year.
Thank you,
Dr. Miles
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
On Friday, May 3rd, the students with autism of King's Highway excitedly boarded the busses with great anticipation for the 2024 Special Olympics that were held at Coatesville Senior High School. They did a great job participating in the different events and they returned to King's Highway with a parade through the halls. The whole school welcomed them back with posters of congratulatory remarks, sounds of "good job" and silent cheers to show our support.
