This week (Feb 26-27 & Feb. 29-March 1), various students in 2nd -5th grade will be taking the TEA online state assessment called TELPAS. This assessment supports our students in the ESL program only. If your child is taking this assessment, please ensure that their meal is provided ahead of time for lunch- as they may not be returning with their peers until testing is completed. We have staff that will support their lunch time. The schedule will be modified to ensure time for completion and security. Grades 3-5 will be testing on Feb. 26 & Feb. 27th. Second grade students will be testing on Feb. 29 & March 1st.
If you are a parent of a TELPAS tester, you may best support your child on the date of testing, by doing the following:
- Please be sure that your child eats a good breakfast on testing day
- Your child gets plenty of sleep the night before
- Child’s iPad is charged and will remain at school on testing dates
- Your child arrives at school with adequate time to settle, no later than 7:45am
Students will have a full day to complete the assessment; however, most students are anticipated to take only 3-4 hours. We want your child to have every opportunity to feel successful on this assessment and will be provided appropriate accommodations as documented for specific students.
If your child is taking this assessment, visitors for these ESL students will not be permissible during the day. When TEA state assessments are conducted, high standards of security are in place, along with keeping the hallways and other areas of the building as quiet as possible. Signs will be posted for these areas, and other parent visitors should be limited to the cafeteria and front entrance on these dates.
