This Month's Panther Focus: "Respect"
Dear Families,
So much learning and growth are happening at our school! This week, we launched our whole-school Word of the Week initiative as we prepare for our end-of-year assessments. The word was "suggest," and students had fun using it in class, spotting it around the building, and even learning the sign language for it! We encourage you to join in the fun at home by using these words with your child. These aren’t unusual or difficult words, but rather ones frequently found on state assessments—our goal is for students to become so comfortable with them that they use them naturally.
Next week, our words will be "conclude" and "conclusion." Here are some example sentences by grade level:
-
Kindergarten: "Can you conclude our story by telling me how it ends?"
-
1st Grade: "I can conclude that spring is coming because the flowers are blooming."
-
2nd Grade: "After reading the book, what conclusion can you make about the main character?"
-
3rd Grade: "Based on the graph, what conclusion can you draw about the number of rainy days?"
-
4th Grade: "How did the author conclude the story? Was it a happy or sad ending?"
-
5th Grade: "What evidence from the text supports your conclusion?"
We also celebrated our Respect Students of the Month today! We are incredibly proud of them for setting a positive example, especially as our energy levels rise with the warmer weather. Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Kindness. Thanks to our collective efforts, we earned a whole-school PJ day as a reward—well done, everyone!
Next week, we also recognize Autism Awareness Month. The color blue—symbolizing calmness and acceptance—is the official color for autism awareness. On Wednesday April 2nd, we encourage students and staff to wear blue or rainbow colors in recognition of the day.
Lastly, a reminder that there will be no school on Monday in recognition of Eid. To all those celebrating, Eid Mubarak! Enjoy the long weekend with your little ones, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, April 1st!
Warmly,
Esther & Jenna
