HSA-Plano hosts Camp Invention 2023
We are excited to announce the launch of our first annual STEM Summer camp! This camp is being run by our very own in-house teacher, Rita Gonzalez, who has a wealth of experience in teaching STEM subjects.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is an important and rapidly growing field, and this summer camp will give students the opportunity to explore these subjects in a fun and engaging way. Through a range of interactive activities and projects, students will develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the STEM disciplines.
We encourage all 1st-5th grade students who are interested in STEM to sign up for this amazing opportunity. Please note that spaces are limited, and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Don't miss out on this chance to be part of our first annual STEM Summer camp!

Preventing Summer Slide
The concept of the summer slide refers to a decline in reading and math over summer break, which tends to have an effect in the upcoming school year.
Younger children are prone to the most learning loss because they’re at a crucial stage in their development. Decoding, letter knowledge, math facts, and word reading skills can drop without frequent practice. Here are some suggestions to help prevent the summer slide:
1. Give kids choice in what they read
Give kids a wide varieity of books to pick from. Taking a trip to the local library and/or joining the free Scholastics summer reading challenge are some fun options to consider.
2. Play games
Games and puzzles are a great way for kids to practice the basics while having fun at the same time. Whether it’s a game geared specifically toward teaching kids a math skill, or a learning activity that helps them brush up on vocabulary, like a sight words memory game, there are plenty of ways to get children practicing their reading and math skills through games.
3. Change your location
Reading together at the park or visiting a historic site or location a book is set in can help your child get more excited about reading and learning. This helps reinforce what kids are learning from books in a real-world setting.
4. Celebrate
One of the most important things you can do this summer and beyond is to compliment and celebrate your child’s reading achievements. This will reinforce reading as a positive behavior and can go a long way.
