We're committed to igniting a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in our young learners. Please refrain from having student-specific conversations with teachers at this time. Parents are encouraged to set up phone, zoom, or face-to-face conferences with teachers to discuss specific concerns via teacher’s email at a later time.
Please remember that time has been spent determining appropriate classroom placements for all students, and class lists are final.
Please do not worry if you cannot make it to Sneak a Peek at Your Seat. Back to School Night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and parents will have another opportunity to meet the teachers and visit classrooms. More information is coming soon.

Student Conduct: The success of any school is dependent on several variables. According to research literature, student conduct helps determine our schools' success. Please reinforce school and class rules and remind students to follow all of them. This is necessary as we try to make a difference in providing a safe and supportive environment for them to be outstanding scholars. The PGCPS student code of conduct will be shared via a link. Please familiarize yourselves with the tenets of the document and support your children in exemplifying the positive behavior that they are learning at home.
Students at CMIT South Elementary will abide by the following School-wide Behavioral Expectations:
1. I will treat everyone with kindness and respect.
2. I will keep my hands and feet to myself.
3. I will use appropriate language toward everyone.
4. I will never tease, cause harm, name-call, or bully another student.
5. I will immediately notify my teacher or another staff member if I am bullied or see someone else being bullied.
Communication: This year, CMIT South Elementary School will use the application School Messenger, Class Dojo, and the CLF Point Reward System (PRS) to disseminate school-wide messages/alerts. If you would like to receive these alerts via text message, please ensure your contact information is updated in Synergy. Stay informed through Class Dojo, weekly newsletters, and teacher emails. The parent handbook will be shared on the first day of school.
Our dedicated staff is eager to guide your children through engaging, hands-on STEM experiences that will inspire and challenge them. Let's make this year a launchpad for exploration and discovery!
We appreciate your support in ensuring student attendance and punctuality, as these factors contribute significantly to student success. Together, we can create a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for our outstanding scholars.
I look forward to a productive and exciting school year ahead!
Have a Pawww-Rific Day!
Educationally,
Ms. Tauheedah N. Simmons-Lewis

ATTENDANCE: Your scholar should be prepared for school on time and in class daily. Time lost from instruction can never be fully regained simply by doing make-up work. Please be advised that students will not be provided with make-up work for unexcused absences. Illnesses and emergencies are excused absences; oversleeping, lack of transportation, and missing school are unexcused absences. Students cannot be expected to perform in a satisfactory manner if they are not present and prepared daily for instruction.
