NEW- NEBRASKA LATINO YOUTH SUMMIT
We are currently looking for Latino students who are interested in attending a Latino Youth Summit. There will be five $1,000 scholarships awarded at this conference.
Where: La Vista Conference Center.

What is the Nebraska Latino Youth Summit?
The Nebraska Latino Youth Summit is a statewide event that brings together hundreds of young Latinos, educators, community leaders, and advocates to engage in meaningful dialogue, share experiences, and inspire positive change. Through workshops, panels, networking opportunities, and keynote presentations, attendees have the chance to explore academic and career pathways, connect with mentors, and access resources that will help them thrive.
If you have already signed up for the Sueños Summit, we will move your registration to this summit.

SENIOR PARENTS, DON'T MISS THE POST-SECONDARY PLANNING NIGHT ON SEPTEMBER 30!
THIS EVENT IS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF OUR SENIOR CLASS!
Parents are invited to attend this event to go over some the basic tasks needed to be completed to make their child's quest for postsecondary education as fruitful as possible.
Counselors will go over: communication, testing, résumés, letters of recommendation, college applications, transcripts, and financial aid. This event will be in the Excellence Center and will last about an hour.

NEW SCHOLARSHIPS ADDED THIS WEEK
Smith Diversity Scholarship this scholarship is to provide post-secondary education to Nebraska's graduating seniors from under-recognized backgrounds, facing financial barriers, who display academic aptitude, leadership, determination toward goals, and a spirit for making an impact.
Odenza Marketing Group Scholarship this scholarship is for students who have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Nebraska Good Life Great Journey Scholarship this scholarship is for students who are pursuing a technical degree and hands-on work experience by working part-time at the NDOT.
Northeast Community College offers a variety of scholarships to students who plan to attend their school.
Sowers Club of Nebraska Foundation Continuing Education Scholarship this scholarship is for students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to attend college in Nebraska.
TIME TO START APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!
A great scholarship to start with is the Midlands Place Scholarship. This scholarship is very simple to complete and you are only competing against students at PLHS for these scholarships.
Step One: Ask a teacher for a recommendation. CLICK HERE for directions how to request recommendations.

Step Three: Complete the Midlands Place Scholarship application.
Step Four: Email Mrs. Bradley your scholarship application and a copy of your resume.

Did you attend an elementary school or middle school in the Papillion La Vista Community Schools? If you have, the Papillion La Vista Community Schools PTO/PTN Scholarship application will be opening soon! To prepare for the scholarship you will need to ask one teacher for a recommendation and create a resume. This scholarship application requires both items to apply.
TURN IN YOUR SCHOLARSHIPS TO THE SCHOLARSHIP OFFICE AS YOU RECEIVE THEM!

Sign up on MaiaLearning and visit with the college(s) in the Counseling Center. In MaiaLearning, click the "Events" tab on the left. Click the "Actions" on the right of the visit you would like to attend. Click "Attend". You will be signed up to attend!
If you sign up for a visit, please make sure you show up! You will not receive a pass!

These would be great days to visit a college campus! To set up a college campus visit, go to the college's website and sign up. The ‘Visit’ option can typically be found on the college’s homepage. If not, check under the 'Admissions' tab. You can also try to call admissions.

College reps and our counselors will be there to guide you through the process, answer your questions, and help you put your best foot forward. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to set yourself up for success. Let's make your college dreams a reality!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW THE COST OF ATTENDING A NEBRASKA COLLEGE?

Don’t rule out a private college just based on their tuition rate. Private colleges typically offer significantly more scholarships than public colleges.
WHY SHOULD I TAKE THE AP EXAM?
PLHS does not mandate that exams are taken, but they are encouraged because of the many benefits they have. As AP Coordinator, Mr. Caruso would like you to consider taking the exams. There will be a window to make the deposit. This is essential for the exam to be ordered.
AP Exam Deposit Payment Windows:
• For all year and first semester classes:
September 27th – November 4st
• For second semester only classes:
February 4th – March 4th
How do I sign up?
Step 1:
This step should have already happened in your student’s class. They will need to join the class and move the exam status to “YES” on the MyAP site.
Step 2:
Pay the deposit and confirm intentions by 11/1 on APTSUSA.
ACT TEST DATES FOR SENIORS
October 26 (Registration Deadline: September 20)
December 14 (Registration Deadline: November 8)

PLCS ACT PREP CLASSES
Papillion La Vista Community Schools is offering an ACT Prep Course! Tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, students can choose to attend a session every week or just a few. Research shows that preparation is a key to test taking. Students taking a test preparation course are better prepared for the ACT than those who have done no preparation. This new PLCS ACT Prep Course is taught by PLCS teachers with expertise in each of the subject areas. CLICK HERE to register and for more information.
