This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4

Latest Updates
Today was a big day for Lakeview, with our second annual Culture Day performances this morning. For the past few months, around 100 students have been planning and creating this year's Culture Week and Culture Day. This morning, many of those students were able to show off their cultures and talents to their peers through dance, song, poem reading, and ventriloquism. All in all, it was a great morning, and our staff and students loved seeing the various cultures that make up our student body. If you are available, we are hosting a performance for families tomorrow, starting at 11:00 am in our Gym. We hope to see you there!
As we head into our final week, a few reminders: Our Academic Awards ceremonies are scheduled for this coming Monday and Tuesday. For our 8th-grade families, if your student is being recognized during the ceremony, you should have received an invitation in the mail. Families are encouraged to arrive starting at 7:30 am, and the ceremony is scheduled to start between 7:45-8:00 am (depending on traffic in parking lot). For parking, families can park in the main lot in front of the school and the side lot.
On Tuesday, our 8th-grade students will turn in their Chromebooks. Please remind your student to bring their Chromebook and charger to school so they can turn it all in at once. Our 8th-graders will be getting new devices as they start high school.

Important Chromebook Safety Information
Parents, please be aware of a concerning TikTok trend impacting students in some school districts. While we have no confirmed cases in PLSD, we believe it’s important to proactively address student safety.
Device Tampering: Students have attempted to short-circuit their Chromebook USB ports using small objects—this poses a serious fire risk.
Electrical Hazards: Wall outlets can also be dangerous if students insert foreign objects into them.
Consequences: Engaging in these activities can lead to suspension or expulsion and even criminal charges like vandalism or arson.
Here is a video showing what can happen.
How You Can Help: Have an age-appropriate conversation with your child about responsible technology use and the dangers of unsafe online trends.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping students safe!
Robotics Team for Rising Freshmen
If your student wants to join the Robotics team next year at the high school, we start meeting for next season on Tuesday 5/13. The team is free to join -- we design, build, code, drive, and compete in Vex Robotics Competitions. Meetings go from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Current 8th graders can meet out at the flagpole in front of the main entrance to North HS at 3:00pm and Mr. Good will come walk them to the correct classroom. They can also be picked up at the flagpole at 4:30pm.
End-of-Year Clinic Reminders
This is a reminder for parents/guardians who provided medication for their student to use during the school year. In accordance with School Board policy, all medications must be picked up by a parent or guardian on or before the last day of school, Friday, May 23. Any medication not picked up by that date will be discarded.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Melanie Thompson at melanie_thompson@plsd.us.
2025-26 School Supplies
For our current 7th-grade families, it's hard to believe we are already talking about school supplies for next year.
If you want to get a jump on school supply shopping for next year and avoid the chaos in the summer, order your school supply box now! Boxes are only $35.99 and ship directly to the school over the summer. You and your student will be able to pick up your box during our Welcome Days sessions in August.
