NRAC Family Newsletter
"Empowering Students to Design Their Own Future"
February 2024
It has been great seeing families in the building this week for parent/teacher conferences and our 8th grade parent night. With springtime coming soon, more events and information will be coming to provide you with updates on scheduling, state testing and end of the year events. I'll do my best to share information in one place via the newsletter, but you may see more emails coming to you over the coming months.
I hope you enjoy some of the amazing pictures and updates in this month's newsletter. There are some great things happening at NRAC and we appreciate all of your support.
Thank you,
Shane
National School Counseling Week
National School Counseling Week 2024 (#NSCW24) was celebrated this week to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. The 2024 theme is "School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused." Our amazing counselors Mrs. Franklin, Mr. Andrews and Ms. Titgemeier work hard everyday to support our students and staff at NRAC. We are so luck to have them in our building!
Principal Updates
Third Grade Reading Guarantee
New family resources are available through the Ohio Department of Education regarding the Third Grade Reading Guarantee parent request exemption. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has partnered with the Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center to produce two new resources for families related to the Third Grade Reading Guarantee Parent Request Exemption.
The first new resource provides information for families about the parent exemption and provides questions families can ask their child’s reading teacher and principal.
The second new resource is a sample letter that families can adapt and use after consulting with their school to communicate with the school if they do not want their child to repeat the third grade based on their English language arts test score.

Make Your Smile Count! - Dental Program
Our 3rd grade has been selected by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to participate in the Make Your Smile Count! dental check scheduled for March 20, 2024. With your permission, a dental hygienist will check your child’s teeth using a disposable mouth mirror. ODH conducts the dental check every few years to see whether the dental health of children in Ohio is improving. As many third graders as possible must participate in this important dental check, to provide a more complete snapshot of Ohio children’s dental health.
Please sign up your child even if your child sees a dentist regularly, has just been to the dentist, or will be going to the dentist soon. A consent form will be coming home soon. Please complete the form and return it to school by February 23, 2024. Your child will receive a new toothbrush and sticker for participating and will bring home a letter with the results.
Below is a link to the Ohio Department of Health YouTube channel which has a 14-minute video, “Strong Smiles, Strong Children,” that teaches schoolchildren about oral health, including good oral hygiene practices, a healthy diet, and the importance of dental care. Starting at 12:17 of the video, information about the Make Your Smile Count! dental check of 3rd grade schoolchildren is also discussed.

PBIS and Ranger STRONG!
Character Strong Monthly Theme: Teamwork
We are continuing our focus on Teamwork in the month of February. Students who show teamwork exhibit high levels of involvement in their classrooms, studios, school and community. They work hard to create and foster meaningful relationships with peers and adults in their life. Please be sure to talk to your student about Teamwork at home and at school.
Thank you to our NRAC PTO for supporting our PBIS efforts. Thanks to their support, our students are able to enjoy some wonderful incentives! We appreciate everything our PTO does to support our students and families.

Drop Off/Pick Up Information
As the weather is getting colder, I wanted to take a moment to remind families about the drop off and pick up procedures for NRAC. Early drop off for car riders begins at 7:15 am. Students who are being dropped off by parents will be allowed to enter the building at 7:15 am. Please click HERE to see more information about drop off and pick up procedures.
When dropping students off in the mornings, please be sure to follow the appropriate drop off routes to ensure a faster and more efficient drop off process.
**Families should note that entrances to the drop off loop through HS parking lot may be blocked with cones in the following weeks. It is important that the appropriate drop off route is followed each morning to maintain efficient drop off process.
