Quizlet

Quizlet is a web tool that provides learning tools for students and teachers. Study features in learn mode include flashcards, spelling tests, and a practice test. In game mode, students with an iPad can play the matching game independently and Quizlet LIVE with their teacher. Teachers can create new study sets or search those made by other teachers. Teachers can also create classes and folders to organize their study sets.

Fun Fact: Quizlet was created by high school sophomore Andrew Sutherland in 2005 and now contains more than 40 million study sets. All of the material is user-generated.

Quizlet is what you make it! You can search study sets that others have created which will take a small amount of time. Alternatively, you can create your own which may take 10-15 minutes.

Our tip comes from Brittany (Parrett) Waters who teaches 5th grade at Central Elementary.

I give a vocabulary quiz every week in addition to a spelling. During the first few weeks, the students were not doing very well at all. Obviously, something had to change and fast.

I introduced Quizlet and within a week the scores improved!

I created the lists which consist of the word and definitions. I could include images if needed. It usually only takes no more than 10-15 minutes to create. Once the, I share the link with​ students in Google Classroom.

Once the students begin using Quizlet, they can study with flashcards, play games with the words and take a practice test. Honestly, this tool is so easy to use and students enjoy using it.
