How Can We Get Better?
One of the guiding principles for this year has been to see and hear everyone. How else can you build community? To that end, we've launched our first monthly survey. You can find it here in English and en español.
I've set up the survey so that only I can read it and follow up with the concerns. I'm a big believer in iterative change--that is, that big changes usually only happen slowly, piece by piece. This survey is our chance to make some small improvements this month. Then next month, we'll tackle a few more. And then more in November. Before we know it, the changes are noticeable!
The survey will give us a chance to stay on the right track. It reminds me of the adage, "He who think he leads when no one is following is just out for a walk." I want to make sure we're not just walking, we're charting a path to rebuild Notre Dame!
I hope you can take a minute to fill it out. We're a great school but we can always get a little better.

National Suicide Prevention Week:
September is nationally recognized as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and this week is National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8-14, 2024). Take Action for Mental Health, California's statewide campaign, has announced this year’s theme for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is “Love Over Loneliness.” This theme reminds us that we can make a big difference for our community simply by recognizing when someone is lonely and reaching out to them. By building strong connections and supporting each other, we can make others feel valued and cared for. Together, we can help prevent suicide with the power of love and connection.
In an effort to spread the message of “Love over Loneliness,” each day this week will present our students with new information, along with an activity which relates to the day’s theme. Monday, September 9th: Start the Conversation Wear a yellow ribbon to show others that you are an individual willing to listen, care for, and help someone who may be struggling. Ribbons will be available throughout campus starting Monday Tuesday, September 10th (World Suicide Prevention Day): Never a bother Complete the “Never a Bother” activity in your Theology class and contribute to Never a Bother community board in the Media Center Wednesday, September 11th: Connect with Community Play a board game or work on a puzzle in commons or media center with your big/little sis Thursday, September 12th: Connect with Resources Grab a Mental Health Thrival Kit and learn about other mental health resources at the Club Fair Friday, September 13th: Love over Loneliness Complete the mental wellness scavenger hunt with your group during lunch Additional Giveaway Contest: Participate in the Directing Change Hope & Justice Monthly Contest for a chance to win a gift card! Send your work and proof of entry to Mrs. Stone by September 30th to be entered into the drawing. Winner will be announced October 3rd. See September's prompt here. To learn more about suicide prevention, check out this Parent Brochure, or visit www.SuicideIsPreventable.org. Additionally, get to know our campus and community mental health resources.
Alumnae News & Community Relations
We would like to highlight the significance of your involvement in your daughter’s school life. Attending and volunteering at school events fosters a strong sense of community within our school. By participating and supporting these events, you are helping to create a positive and supportive environment for all students. Your involvement contributes to a strong sense of school spirit and helps to build lasting relationships between students, parents, and staff.
We encourage you to mark your calendars for BOCCE NIGHT, November 2nd, and make every effort to attend or volunteer. It will be a casual night out with friends and families. We'll have bocce ball courts set up, so come ready to play or simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere. There will be plenty of food and drinks to keep everyone satisfied, raffles with fantastic prizes, a dessert silent auction, and live music to set the mood and add to the fun.
We are asking that each family and staff member please donate a nice bottle of wine for our WINE BARREL RAFFLE. If you like wine, you will love a chance to take home at least 2 cases!
WE WILL BE HAVING A BOCCE MEETING ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH, 6:00 PM in the Commons-please come if you are interested in helping out!
Watch for a Sign-Up Genius to come home soon with more information to follow!
