WOW! What a generous community we have! This year, our families donated 3677 items to the Meridian Food Bank during our PVE Student Council Canned Food Drive. The support from this drive will be appreciated by so many. Again, thank you for always rising to the challenge and helping our students give back to others.

Mr. Scott Barnett, 5th Grade Teacher, was selected by his colleagues, parents, and students to represent the values and leadership of Pleasant View Elementary as the Teacher of the Year for 2023. Not only is Mr. Barnett a model and leader for our student and staff, but he is also a dynamic and engaging educator who creates a very motiving classroom. The safe and creative learning environment allows him to help student take ownership for their learning, while also being willing to take risks and show their courage. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Mr. Barnett has also led the Student Activities Team and our student council. He is humorous and lighthearted, but also emphasizes the equal importance of being caring and compassionate. Mr. Barnett is a true ROCKSTAR at Pleasant View, and we could not be prouder to celebrate him.

Mrs. Cami Dabb, our Computer Lab Instructor, was recognized today as Pleasant View Elementary's Classified Employee of the Year. Mrs. Dabb was recognized by the staff for being extremely flexible, student-oriented, and a problem-solver. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, models kindness daily, and she seeks out ways to collaborate with grade level teachers to support the curricular standards in the classroom. Her influence is reflected through the excitement the students show in computers and in the relationships she has built with staff and students. We could not be more blessed to have Mrs. Dabb as part of the team and are happy we can celebrate her.

Congratulations to this group of students who received recognition after not only receiving a Pronghorn Pride Ticket, but for also being selected to represent their peers. These students were caught either modeling a school-wide expectation or showing ownership for their learning. Way to be #PronghornStrong!

Parents - while on duty this morning at the Renhold/Lichfield loop, I observed many parents blocking the driveways. When dropping off and picking up your students, please DO NOT block the driveways in the neighborhood. Thank you!

West Ada School District has recently updated the website for Health Service. You can now access general information in one location. Go to the WASD website-Menu-Academics-Health Services. https://www.westada.org/page/parent-resources

Click the + to the left of Health Services and you will find two options, the Meridian School Clinic and Parent Resources.

Click either option; you will find specific information pertaining to that subject. Parent Resources gives you information about commonly seen medical conditions with the answers to commonly asked questions.

Click Health Services and you will find information regarding childhood illness, guidelines for medication at school, Immunizations and Telehealth Services.

The State Department of Education is determined to provide schools and districts with information that supports improved teaching and learning. The Cognia Student Engagement Survey collects direct feedback from students, staff, and parents regarding their learning experiences and the results help leaders and teachers understand what students need for their success. We are looking for a few parents who are open to volunteering at lunch to help run football, basketball, and soccer games. As much as students love playing these games here at school, playing for fun and refereeing themselves is often difficult. However, when the adults can help interact and support, our students LOVE IT. So... here is your chance to join us and engage in some great kid time.

We are noticing an unusual amount of “Unverified Absences”. Please note that these turn into truancies after two days. If your student is going to be absent for any reason: illness, personal, etc., please call the school at 208-350-4490 and verify with the main office the reason for the absence. If you prefer to email, please include the teacher and front office.

Also, please take a moment to log into PowerSchool and review your child’s absences. If your child was absent due to a medical, dental, or other provider appointment, a medical excuse can be submitted by the provider and faxed to 208-350-4499. You may also bring the documents directly to the office or scan and email documents to hill.jenene@westada.org. If you have questions or feel there has been an error in the recording of the attendance, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for continuing to work on this situation to make sure your child is at school daily and timely.

Please note, the lunch balance for unpaid lunches at PVE has grown significantly to over $700. If you are not able to afford lunch for your child, or if you are struggling and need a hand up, please be sure to apply for meals today.

Traffic and bus accidents are the number one cause of student injury and death every year. Because of this, we have formed a problem-solving group named: “Student Safety Mobility Commission”. This group is a collaboration between West Ada School District, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, City of Meridian, Ada County Highway District, and Meridian Police Department. Its mission is to identify and collaborate on solving unsafe pedestrian, bicycle and automobile situations coming and going to school. If you see unsafe conditions in the community surrounding our schools, please email David Reinhart at Reinhart.David@westadaschools.org so that this issue can be addressed and resolved.

Good News! West Ada School District, to be of assistance to our families and schools, has two ways to support your transportation questions and requests.

First – WASD now has a dedicated Customer Service representative who will be answer your phone calls from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. You may call 208-350-4747 for immediate help.

Second – Families are encouraged to use our District Help Desk ticket system found here to make written requests regarding transportation. This Transportation Help Desk is found under “Parents and Students” section for “Transportation” tab of the district website.

In addition, you can set up Transportation Notifications that come from Cascade to include staff. See the reminders below Transportation Notifications from Cascade.

I have been in touch with our Chief Operations Officer for West Ada to get an update on the signal. The materials have arrived, and the next step is in the works. Please see the statement below for the update.

We are planning to go out to bid next week for the contractor to complete the work, with approval of the contractor at the first board meeting in March. Once the construction contractor is chosen, I can then identify with them when the physical construction will occur at the site. I will reach back out in mid-March with who the contractor is that was chosen and when we anticipate them breaking ground.

Pleasant View Elementary is participating in the Roaring Readers program as partnership with Roaring Springs Waterpark. This program encourages your child to read on a consistent basis. A log is included for students to record their reading times.

Students K-4 are encouraged to read 600 minutes and 5th grades goal is 800 minutes. By participating in this reading program your child will be rewarded a FREE day ticket to Roaring Springs Waterpark!

All entries need to be turned in to their teacher no later than March 27th, 2023.
