The Wildcat Weekly
November 11 - 15
Early Dismissal 11/14 (Thursday) @ 11:30 AM
Hey, GIS Families!
As we settle into November, the warm days feel like a distant memory with this weekend's cooler temperatures. I absolutely love this change! With the drop in temperature, we all need our outdoor gear, which also means our lost and found pile is growing, again. 😆 Please remember to label boots, jackets, gloves, and hats so we can easily return items to their owners.
If you’re interested in purchasing a t-shirt or sweatshirt, check out the design below! This is NOT a fundraiser; shirts will be sold at cost, which is still to be determined. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFoJ16gO-4fKNQtiRQ1h4PTuKwgpWgmHW00MvDr9HCYyFwzQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
We’re excited about our upcoming event this Wednesday evening for all families: our Title 1 and Book Tasting Night! Join us in the cafeteria for some fun! You can RSVP using this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScieRdYbojYrPErPms5Sw-sJpF_PEC_GgsCDnRkBl-ZWQz78g/viewform?usp=sf_link . More details are provided below.
If you need anything, my door and inbox are always open!

Celebrating Mrs. Lovejoy
Exciting Announcement!
Every year, the GISU has the amazing opportunity to nominate two outstanding educators for the prestigious UVM Outstanding Educator Award. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate Mrs. Lovejoy from GIS and Tom Nolan from Folsom, who have been recognized for their exceptional contributions! I had the chance to attend the ceremony and honor Mrs. Lovejoy along with all the other remarkable educators celebrated across Vermont.
GIS Reading Goal
Exciting Reading Milestone at GIS!
Over the past month, the reading spirit has been soaring at GIS! This past Friday, Mrs. Lovejoy took the time to tally up the total number of books we've read as a school community, and guess what? We absolutely crushed our goal of 456 books!
Drumroll, please… we read a jaw-dropping 597 books as a school!
To celebrate this fantastic achievement, Pan's Pizza generously donated around 40 pizzas for our amazing students and staff. With delicious options catering to all dietary needs, the celebration was a massive success! Let's keep the reading momentum going! 📚🎉
Preparing for Middle School (6th grade families)
It's Not Too Early to Start Thinking About Next Year
It’s hard to believe that in just six short weeks, we'll be welcoming a new year! With the new year, we also begin to think about the exciting transition to middle school.
Over the past two years, I've gathered some insights on how to better support families during this important time. In each newsletter leading up to early Spring, I’ll share helpful steps and tips to guide you through this process. Stay tuned for more!
Start to Think About Where You Want to Attend
As a family in Grand Isle, North Hero, and Isle La Motte, you have school choice to any school for middle and high school.
Schools typically chosen are:
- Folsom
- Colchester
- South Burlington
- Essex
- Milton
- NCCS
- And MORE!
Busing is provided to most schools, but not all, and that often plays a factor in family choice.
Your To-Do List
- Make a list of schools you might want to attend.
- Visit those school websites to see what activities they offer, what classes kids usually take, etc.
- Be prepared to have a decision by March 2025.
- School visits are later in the Spring.
Title One Book Tasting Night
The Book Fair is Coming!
The 2024 Scholastic Book Fair will be held at Grand Isle School from December 2nd through December 7th. A flyer will be sent home with students within the next few weeks with information about which books will be at the Fair. During library classes the week of December 2nd, students will have the opportunity to explore the Book Fair and make purchases if families choose to send in students with funds. The last day of the Book Fair will be Saturday, December 7th and it will be open during the GIS Craft Fair. To set up an eWallet for a student to use, please visit this link: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/ewallet.html As the dates get closer, I will be sending out an email with the Book Fair's homepage and more details. However, please feel free to reach out with questions in the meantime. Thank you for your support!

Go Nut for Donuts!
GIS is partnering with the PTA on a fundraiser to help support our teacher mini-grant requests. Mini-grants have supported classroom needs, our Little Free Library in front of the school (by the bike rack), and many other things! We're picking up donuts fresh to deliver to you! Order now through the PTA!
Want to Order a Grand Isle School T-Shirt?
We have had requests to purchase t-shirts with the mock up below. The cost per item is at our cost and is not a fundraiser. Depending on the amount we order, the cost changes. We will offer sweatshirts as well.
I am estimating around $20 for a t-shirt and $45 for a sweatshirt, again, this could change depending on total number ordered.
Let me know your interest! I will provide final cost estimates after collecting interest from families.
