SY24 Family Issue
Dear Dolphin Families,
As the leaves slowly begin to change color and the air turns cooler, we are settling into familiar routines and embracing the rhythm of learning. The start to the new school year has been smooth and successful. We are filled with pride witnessing students' enthusiasm for learning and the overall positive energy in our school.
We encourage our students to join the LMDES staff each Friday for school spirit day. Students are invited to wear LMDES shirts or our school colors.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education. Your support is invaluable.
Kindly,
Mrs. Lindsay Brenfleck, Principal
Mr. Joseph Farrell, Assistant Principal

Satellite Safety Reminders
We want to ensure the safety of all our students during drop-off and pick-up times. Please review these three important safety reminders.
- Stay in your car while in the satellite line. If you need to buckle your students, kindly pull up and off to the side near the dumpsters to avoid blocking the flow of traffic.
- Do not pass/go around other vehicles as this can create confusion and potential hazards.
- Have your students ready to exit or enter the car swiftly to maintain the smoothness of the process.
Your cooperation in following these guidelines is vital for the safety of everyone. Thank you for your attention and understanding.
Attendance Matters!
September was Attendance Awareness Month. At LMDES, we maintain a yearlong focus on attendance! Regular school attendance is fundamental to a child's academic success, social development, and future prospects. Regular attendance also prepares students for the responsibilities they'll have as adults, teaching them how to be organized and disciplined. Going to school regularly sets the stage for a successful future!
If your child needs to be absent from school, please report their absence here so the absence can be marked lawful. A button to report LMDES absences has been added to the "Helpful Resources & Info Worth Repeating" at the bottom of the newsletter. Read more about attendance here: https://www.smcps.org/offices/student-services/school-attendance.
We are so thankful when we see our students every day!
Family/Teacher Conference Day & Virtual Instruction
Monday, October 9 is a two-hour early release & virtual asynchronous day for students. SMCPS has designated the two-hour afternoon block (2:00-4:00 pm) for Family/Teacher Conferences. Please look for virtual learning information from your child's teacher this week.
Due to the limited timeframe, teachers will reach out to students’ families only if they feel a conference is necessary at this time. If you do not receive a communication from your child’s teacher, but would like to discuss your student’s progress, please contact the classroom teacher.
Family/teacher conferences can be scheduled at any point throughout the school year!

SMCPS STEAM Festival
Save the Date: This year’s SMCPS STEAM Festival will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. Admission is free and open to the public. Wrap up the fall festival season with a day of learning, food trucks, and STEAM-related fun!
News from the Library
Dear LMDES Families,
Books are circulating more this year than in the past which is so fantastic! We ask that you please check your MySchoolsBucks account to see if your child is in good standing or if s/he has a lost or damaged book fine. These charges go directly back to the library to replace those lost or damaged books so that we can keep high interest books in the hands of students.
Questions? Please email aawathen@smcps.org
