Our Marshal's had a great week diving into their routines and building new friendships across campus. This week we will welcome our visitors and volunteers to campus. Please read the information below if you are planning to eat lunch with your Marshal this week.

Attention 3rd, 4th, & 5th Graders! If you are interested in becoming a student council representative for your homeroom class this year, be on the lookout for important information coming home in this week’s Monday folders. Student Council is a club that allows students to be leaders within the school and through outside service projects here in our community. Monday, August 26th, your homeroom teacher will be sending home an information letter regarding running for Student Council, as well as an email with important links for signing up. The sign up deadline is August 30th.

Campaigning will be held September 9th-13th. We recommend making 4-5 posters that will be hung throughout the school. Parents can accompany their child to hang posters on the morning of September 9th from 7:30-7:50 am with a valid government ID. Students are required to bring their own materials for hanging posters. Please limit to stapling on the upper portion of the walls, and tape on the lower portion. Please do not use duct tape. Voting will take place in each homeroom on the morning of September 13th and winners will be announced by their teacher by the end of the day.

Each year, our students have the opportunity to purchase a McClure Grade Level Shirt. Each grade level has a different colored shirt. This year, these shirts will be purchased online and delivered to the school. Order your shirt online here.

The deadline is firm and the Groggy Dog site will close off orders Sunday, September 8th at 11:59 pm CDT.

We are excited to announce that McKinney ISD has transitioned to a new unified communications and website platform designed to keep families informed and encourage greater engagement with our schools and district. This new, more robust website and mobile application are part of our McKinney ISD strategic plan communications goal, “to provide professional, transparent, and consistent communication that is easily accessible to all stakeholders.”

INTRODUCING MCKINNEY ISD’S NEW WEBSITE

Our new website has many exciting features including:

• District & Campus buttons and menus have been thoughtfully updated and streamlined.

• The introduction of buttons guiding you to frequently used links for the district and campus sites.

• Live Feed and News - these areas continuously update as information is shared with the community through social media.

• Events - One source for all calendars! You can choose to view in list view or calendar view and even add upcoming events to your personal calendar.

MOBILE APPLICATION

The McKinney ISD mobile app is customized specifically for our district and can be found in both the Apple Store and Google Play. The app features:

• Calendar Events

• Staff

• Documents

• Notifications

• Language translation services

IMPORTANT LAUNCH INFORMATION

Our district domain will remain www.mckinneyisd.net. Google searches may not function properly for a brief time, and return “broken links” temporarily. We recommend going directly to the McKinney ISD website rather than using google searches for the first week. Any saved bookmarks will need to be updated as links will be different. We will continue to add 2024-2025 school year information on both district and campus websites.

As with any transition, navigating the new website could be an adjustment, but we know you’ll find the enhanced resources beneficial. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue working to enhance communication and engagement within our district!

Beginning 8/19/24, this form will be used to Change Dismissal For ONE Day Only. If you need to change the dismissal for your student any day, you will need to complete this dismissal change form prior to 2:30pm that day. Teachers will check this form daily for any dismissal changes.

This will replace emailing your teacher and the McClure Office.

Please complete this form to CHANGE the way your child goes home if today will be DIFFERENT from a normal day. Please submit dismissal changes FOR TODAY ONLY on this form. This form will go directly to the office staff and your child's homeroom teacher. All changes for dismissal must be submitted by 2:30PM.

We understand that many parents want their child to carry cell phones or smart watches for safety reasons. Your child may bring a cell phone and/or smartwatch to school, however it may not be used during the day per the Student Handbook and Acceptable Use Policy unless given permission by the teacher. Cell phones must be kept in the student's backpack during the school day. Smart Watches must be turned off during the school day and may be worn if off or kept in their backpacks.

Please talk with your student about this prior to allowing them to wear a smartwatch or bringing a cell phone to school.

McKinney ISD’s Student Handbook

Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Cell Phones, and Other Electronic Devices (See Appendix I) The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes. Please ensure that your student is following the MISD Student Dress Code daily. If a student comes to school in something that does not meet the MISD dress code, a change of clothing will be needed.

Here are a few friendly reminders of things to consider for your Marshal. Full Student Dress Code linked below.

• If tights, leggings, or other form-fitting pants are worn, the buttocks and pelvic region must be covered at all times by a dress, shirt, skirt, or shorts.

• Yoga pants, jeggings, leggings, tights, exercise/training sportswear, or excessively tight pants or form fitting pants; the buttocks and pelvic region must be covered at all times by a dress, shirt, skirt, or shorts.

Spaghetti straps, tube tops, exposed midriff or cleavage, halter-type blouses, mesh/see through shirts, tank tops, muscle shirts, basketball jerseys must be worn with an appropriate garment, (i.e. T-shirt)

A valid state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. Please be prepared with your ID upon arrival. We are not allowed to accept a photo of your government issued photo ID.

Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2024-2025 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year.

All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.

The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.

The McClure Dads Organization is a group of Dads that support many School and PTO functions, as well as several specific functions hosted by the Dads.

Our Mission Statement is to inspire children by being present, setting a positive example, and being supportive of education.

It is imperative that we all follow our arrival and dismissal procedures in order to keep all of our Marshals safe. Your student may be dropped off through carpool lane or parent walk up in the morning. If you are walking your student up to the front entrance, you will need to park in the South parking, cross the crosswalk, and then follow the sidewalk up to the front doors. Please DO NOT use the handicapped parking spots if you do not have proper permitting. Please follow the traffic flows on the maps below in order to allow our traffic to flow smoothly.

If you are picking your student up in carpool or parent walk-up, please make sure you have your McClure student pick up number with you for the 24-25 school year. For safety reasons the color of the tag changes yearly. Staff members will only release your student with the current year's dismissal tag.

Please use the correct location for your student's dismissal.

If you are a returning Marshal, please note that our walk alone students will be dismissed through a different door this year and will be walked by a staff member to the stop sign at the crosswalk for dismissal.

Please DO NOT park in the bus lane at any time during the day. This includes arrival and dismissal. The fire lane is for Daycare, School Buses and emergency vehicles only!

A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.

The MISD After School Program Parent Handbook is unique to the after school program but does not include all of MISD Policy/Procedures. The parent handbook is a supplement to the MISD Policy/Procedures.

As a service to McKinney ISD students and families, the district provides the Community Folder for school related, non-school related, and non-profit organizations. Electronic communication has become standard and is preferred by many parents; the schools are sharing more and more information via email as a convenience to parents. This also cuts back on paper coming home in folders. Information posted and accepted must be youth-oriented and will be reviewed and approved by the Communications Department. Updates will be posted often, so we ask that you check back for the latest opportunities and information from our community.
