Dolphin Dispatch Weekly Update
Week of May 6th
🗒️A Note From the Principal.....
Hello Dolphin Families!
Another great week! Just a few reminders as we head into the week:
- Read-A-Thon Results: We raised $9,252.00 of that our school gets 75% which comes out to $6,939.00. 296 students participated and read for 135,115 minutes! That's a lot of reading! Mrs. Dougherty's class read the most minutes, and Mrs. Sneath's class raised the most money. Top reader in the school was Ryan B. with 2,555 minutes. Mia K. raised the most money in the school at $925. Top readers in each grade level were as follows: Kindergarten: Austin B., First Grade: Olivia M., Second Grade: Lexi M., Third Grade: Ryan B., Fourth Grade: Julia H., and Fifth Grade: Leora B. Great job everyone!
- Teacher Appreciation Week: With just 25 days left in the school year, it is time to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them! Please see the flyer below for more information.
- Girls Gala: Our PTA sponsored Girls Gala will be Friday, May 10th from 5:30-7:30pm here in our DBE Gym. See the flyer below.
- Boys Night Out - Our PTA sponsored Boys Night Out will be Friday, May 17th 6pm-8pm here at DBE. Please see the flyer below for more information.
- TK / Kindergarten Registration for 24-25 is happening now! We are planning staffing and classrooms for next year, so it is important to register as soon as possible if you have an incoming Dolphin. Here is the registration LINK or you can click the box below.
- Students who turn 5 on or before September 1st, 2024 are eligible for Kindergarten.
- Students who turn 5 on or after September 2nd, 2024 but before June 2, 2025 are eligible for TK
- Smart Watch Reminders - We have a lot of students who are now the proud owners of a smart watch. While these can be wonderful safety tools for students who come to and from school independently, once they are in school they may only function as a watch. Texting, calling, and photo taking with these devices during school hours is not allowed. Please be sure to have a conversation with your child so they understand. Any students having difficulty with this during the school day will be asked to place their watch in their backpack. Thank you!
Have an amazing week!

📅Attendance Matters!
Please call in for any absences.
- Attendance Line: (925) 809-7541
- Email: bmorgan@byron.k12.ca.us
- Absent phone calls begin to go out at 10am. We do our best to have all calls and emails entered by that time. If you have ever been in our school office in the morning, however, it can be a very busy place!
- Absences can only be recorded within 72 hours of the absent day. Please contact the office asap if your child is absent, and provide a medical note if a physician is consulted or seen. It is considered a truant day if the absence is not reported by a parent/guardian.
- Students must be here to learn. While there is A LOT of research around the importance of school attendance, the most important thing to know is that children have to be here to learn. Just missing 1 day a month, over the 10 month school year, at 6 hours a day is 60 HOURS of learning time lost. There is no amount of work we can send home that takes the place of being here. 😊
💡 Reminders
1. Don't Forget to Join Our PTA!
So many of the great things (art, library, stem lab, field trips, and more!) that happen on this campus are due in large part to the support of our PTA! A strong PTA is also a sign of a strong school community. Please click the link and join today!
2. Have a question❓
The BEST place to have your questions answered is to begin with the source:
- Classroom routines, procedures, concerns - Begin with an email or phone call to the teacher. You can expect a response within 24 hours (not including weekends.)
- School policies and procedures - Begin with the website, then the main office with a phone call or email. You can expect a response within 24 hours, if not significantly sooner.
- PTA Events and questions - An email to DBPTApresident@gmail.com is a great place to start! Sometimes these can be answered on our parent Facebook page Discovery Bay Elementary Parents.
