Permissive Transfer Update for 24-25 School Year
The Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District 62 believes in the concept of the “neighborhood school.” Absent good or substantial reason, it is the desire of the District to have children in grades K-8 attend their “neighborhood” school whenever possible.
School Board Policy 7:30 addresses the topic of student transfers within the District. The policy indicates that students shall be assigned to attend the school that serves the attendance area in which they reside on a full-time basis. A student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s) may request that the student be transferred to a District school other than the one to which the student was assigned due to specific family or student needs. Approval shall not be granted as a matter of simple convenience or preference on the part of the parent or guardian. Requests are to be made via this form.
Students currently attending a school based on a previously approved permissive transfer request and desire to remain in such school, will continue to be assigned to that building through the grade levels of that school. Once a student is set to leave elementary school for middle school, the student would be assigned to their home middle school unless a permissive transfer request is received and approved.
- Those students who already attend a school based on a permissive transfer are not required to resubmit a request.
- Final decisions regarding such requests will be the responsibility of the Superintendent or his/her designee.
- All requests for transfers must be submitted via this form by May 31, 2024. Transfer requests will not be approved if space is not available for additional students.
- For more information click here.

Cumberland Monthly PBIS Focus - April
Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. This month students are learning about: standing up for others. During social emotional learning time, they will work through class discussions, listen to read alouds from staff, and engage in other activities with their class centered around the monthly focus.
One way you can support this monthly focus at home is to have conversations with your child(ren) about our monthly themes.
Thank you for your continued partnership in education.
Cumberland Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)
The Cumberland PTO supports students and teachers throughout each year through hosting community events, fundraising, and providing many opportunities for community members to volunteer. Please join us for the monthly PTO Meeting on Wednesday, April 17 at 7pm. The meeting will be held virtually so please check your emails for the link to attend as we get closer to the date.
All are welcome! If you have any questions for the Cumberland PTO please email hello@pto.cumberland.org
