February 14th: Weekly Update
GVMS Community,
Yesterday, we had a fantastic Winter Pep Rally where we celebrated our amazing winter athletes and academic teams. A special shout-out goes to our 8th Grade Boys and Girls basketball teams as they joined forces in the student versus teachers basketball game. It was a great show of sportsmanship from everyone involved. The game went into overtime with the student team clinching a thrilling 25-23 victory. A huge thank you to everyone who involved in the game, the planning and implementation of the pep rally, and all of the 7th and 8th graders who were watching and cheering throughout the entire event.
Looking ahead to the long weekend, we hope everyone has a lovely Valentine's Day. Whether you're enjoying a break or heading to the Eagles Parade, we hope you have a safe and fun time.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lisa Stenz, Principal
Mr. Rick Martin, Assistant Principal
Dr. Gerry Weinhardt, Assistant Principal

In the past, some of you may remember that we hosted Literacy Nights and STEAM Night which welcomed all of our families and students into the building. Our newest version of this type of night will highlight our Unified Arts and Language programs and once again open our school doors to our families for an evening event.
Below you will find the program descriptors of our Unified Arts and Language programs that will be highlighted the night of our even and their specific locations:

Reminder: Information on Excused & Unexcused Latenesses
We strongly believe that punctual arrival to school each morning is critical to our student’s success.
Five parent notes denoting illness or emergency will be accepted throughout the semester, and the lates will be marked as excused. After 5 excused lates, additional lates will be regarded as unexcused unless a legal doctor's excuse is provided. Oversleeping, car trouble, and missing the bus are not excused reasons for lateness (even if accompanied by a parent note).
Students who accumulate more than four unexcused latenesses per semester will be called to the office and school actions will be taken, which may include detentions and a home and school team meeting to establish an action plan for improvement.
If your student is coming in late or leaving early due to a doctor/ortho visit, please ask the office for a return to school note and send it in with your student to the main office when they return, so their attendance file can be updated.
