Technology News
Happy New Year! We have some exciting things happening in Technology class this year. We are working on Science (STEAM) Units in Technology classes for the next few months. We are using an amazing program called Project Lead the Way and the creativity is flowing!
In Kindergarten, the students are learning about pushes, pulls and force. In this Unit, the students are asked to help Mylo, Suzi and Angelina (PLTW characters) construct a way to help move heavy rocks without picking them up so that a swing set can be placed in their spot. The students will learn to identify, discuss and fix mistakes and to also realize that mistakes are a part of the learning process.
The First Graders are participating in a unit where they need to design a shoe for someone who is traveling to the desert. They will be doing a lot of research on the desert and desert animals before working collaboratively on a shoe design that will withstand the harsh desert weather as well as be comfortable and light enough to wear on the trip.
The Second Graders will be working on a project that involves preventing a landslide. They will be studying maps, landforms and the changing Earth to help identify ways to prevent a landslide from ruining a house on the bottom of a hill.
Stay tuned for some wonderful learning going on in our school!

Art News
Hello PAK families!
I hope you are well and have enjoyed what your children have been bringing home from art class. We have been cruising through the elements of art over the last few months and have expanded our knowledge of lines to shapes, color theory, and will be moving on to value soon. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. I have linked the fun song that we will be listening to in class below.
Each grade level is going to be working on multi-step projects that require several different mediums and techniques. Stay tuned for some incredible creations and please be sure to ask them about the history/cultural significance of the projects.
Remember to send them to school in clothes that can come home with a little “creativity” on them when it is their scheduled art day. If you would like to donate baby wipes to help clean up their little hands, that would be greatly appreciated.
Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me with any questions and please feel free to contact me if your child has shared what they have learned in class with you. They get something special for doing that!
Be well,
Jenna Bailey
PE News
Happy New Year Families!
I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful vacation! Prior to vacation, the students had been hard at work increasing their leg muscular endurance by using the scooters. We played a variety of games to help with this such as pac-man, steal the ball, and scooter hockey. Scooters are always a favorite in class!
As we return, the students will be working on manipulative skills which are movement skills that require an ability to handle an object or piece of equipment with control. The target skills will be practiced through basketball (dribbling) and striking with our body. Each unit will continue to highlight PAK’s values of being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind. I look forward to continued progress as we enter the New Year!
A reminder as we enter the cold winter months, please send your child in with a pair of sneakers on PE day for safety. Thank you for your continued support!
In good health,
Miss. D
