Kay's Creek Connection
Weeks of December 9 & December 16 Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Kay's Creek Families,
The next two weeks will be busy, and we encourage families to ensure students are on time and present every day. Let’s make these next two weeks of learning impactful before enjoying a well-deserved winter break!
My wish for each of you is that your Christmas if filled with true joy, love and peace in your families, and that all you hold dear and important to you during the Christmas season is greatly magnified!
Merry Christmas!
Principal Bukey
Counselor's Corner
Hello, Kay's Creek! This week we're talking about service, which allows us to put our gratitude into action. Teaching our students and children about service is a valuable way to nurture their sense of compassion, empathy, and community involvement. Serving can foster empathy and compassion for others, particularly during the holidays by helping our youth learn to appreciate things they might otherwise take for granted, such as family, food, and shelter. Serving can also help build community awareness by connecting them to their local environment and showing them they matter and can make a difference. Finally, it allows them to connect with their families and classmates, strengthening those bonds in unique ways. Serving during the holidays through acts of kindness, donating toys or clothes to local charities, or food and blankets to local shelters are meaningful ways to serve. Our acts of service benefit EVERY1, the giver and receiver. Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." Meaningful service can make a positive impact for years to come. Have a great December!

Reflections Participants
Congratulations to all our students who participated in this year's Reflections Contest. The theme was "Accepting Imperfections." Those who could attend celebrated their efforts and success by being recognized on the red carpet this week! Two of our students' entries were selected to move onto the regional competition! Policies & Procedures
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Instead, we invite you to purchase a book in your child's name for the school library. More information here. Thank you for your understanding.
- Toys should not be brought to school unless a teacher gives permission for a specific purpose. Resin miniatures, such as the little ducks that are so popular, fit under this policy.
- The 2024-25 Belonging & Safe Schools Presentation has been presented to all 1st-6th grade students, with the exception of a few students who were absent. We invite parents of kinder students to view it and determine how you would like to share it with your child.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
