Greene Families

What a week! Our 5th grade Lego League team, AV8R is advanced to the STATE competition, our music department hosted the Instrument Fair for rising 5th graders and we helped the African Library Project surpass their goal of gathering 10,000 books!

This week our 5th grade classes begin their trips to I-Space and the JH choir teachers will visit our choir classes to share about their program. Before you know it, we will be sharing about scheduling for next year (seriously, that is coming soon).

This week we will have our next PBIS drawing focus on respect and responsability in the classroom. Last week, we gave examples on the announcements about how to deal with feedback, work in groups, and the importance of being prepared for class. This week we will also cover being responsible with our devices--how to use them as a tool but not allow it to distract us from what we need to be focused on.

Operation Give Back provides food, home supplies and personal care items to families living in the Blue Ash, Montgomery, Sharonville, Sycamore Township and Symmes communities. OGB really needs help restocking their pantry. Greene Family lets help fill their pantry. While all items are welcome, the pantry is in need of the following items:

• Mayo- small plastic jars
• Crackers- all types
• Hunts Pasta Sauce- cans
• Canned Soup
• Canned Chicken
• Coffee- small plastic jars
• Chef Boyardee

"Curious about CogAT results for your student? The District will begin notification to families who have newly qualified for gifted based upon the winter CogAT assessment in February via email. On Friday, January 17th at 4:00 pm families will receive the Narrative Profile Report from the winter CogAT administration in their ebackpack. In March/April the District will then notify families via email in what subject area students have qualified. Students who are identified in this window will not change course placement until the 2025-26 school year."

In February, English learners at Greene will be completing Ohio's English Language Proficiency Assessment. This assessment includes speaking, listening, and reading and writing sections. Please reference the testing dates below:

• Tuesday, February 4th-Thursday, February 6th: All English learners will complete the listening, reading and writing sections.
• Tuesday, February 18th-Thursday, February 20th: Individual student speaking assessments
• Tuesday, February 25th-Thursday, February 27th: Individual student speaking assessments

We are excited to start the process of transitioning your students to Sycamore Jr. High! Our first event is the Rising 7th Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, February 12th from 6:30-8pm at Sycamore Junior High. You can enter either the Main Entrance or Event Entrance.

The event will start at 6:30 in the auditorium with a welcome from the Administrators and Counselors. We will introduce ourselves, share the vision of the school, and the similarities and differences between Greene and the Junior High. We will also spend time going over the scheduling/course selection process.

Then families will be free to:

• Tour the building

• Get information on sports and clubs

• Learn more about our Cincinnati Children's Partners

• Meet with music and STEAM elective teachers

• Meet World Language teachers

• Week of February 24th: A mailer including important scheduling information will be mailed home for Rising 7th grade students.

• February 28th: Core class recommendation uploaded to My eBackpack

• March 5th,6th,7th: Junior High Counselors will meet Greene students to complete remaining course selections.

• March 14th: Students will receive course verification sheets listing selected courses via My eBackpack.

The Sycamore Junior High choirs are looking to add many amazing 6th graders to their choirs next year. Students do not have to be in choir this year to participate in choir at the Junior High. Deborah Stein and Jesse Callahan, SJH choir directors, will be visiting our 6th grade choir and General Music classes in the next couple of weeks to provide more information and audition the students. Interested 6th grade students who are NOT in general music/choir this year should audition on Thursday, January 30th from 3:00-3:30 in the General Music Room at EH Greene. This is a stress free audition with no singing experience required. Students should have transportation to pick them up at 3:30. You may email Mrs. Stein (steind@sycamoreschools.org) or Mr. Callahan (callahanj@sycamoreschools.org) if you have any additional questions. Attention: Parents of 6th Grade Students

Two immunizations are required by the state of Ohio (ORC 3313.67) before the start of 7th grade. Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis booster) and Meningitis (MCV4). Your child may already have had them at their 11 year old check up. If so please obtain a copy of those immunizations. If not, please make an appointment for your student to get these two immunizations. Once you have obtained copies of TDAP and MCV4, send them to Lucy Gruen RN at Sycamore Junior High. Thank you!

As we continue into winter, please keep the following in mind to help ensure a smooth and safe start to your student’s day:

• Morning Drop-Off: Our school doors open at 7:30 AM. Riding the bus is the easiest way to start the day and avoid morning drop-off congestion. If there is inclimate weather, we will open the doors at 7:20am.

• Recess Guidelines: If the wind chill is above 20°F, students will go outside for recess. Please remind your student to dress in layers and come to school prepared for the weather.
