Eagle News and Notes
January 2025
Stay Warm
We are getting hit was some pretty cold weather. We see many students coming in the building without coats. The temperatures we are expecting make it dangerous to be outside for any length of time without something to protect them. Please remind your student's that it is in their best interest to bundle up, even if it's not the cool thing to do!
Please remind your driver's to drive carefully and if you have not signed up for Remind 101, you will want to do so. This is how we communicate out quickly any closings or delays. Instructions are on the parent tab of the school's website.
We are also beginning a new Quarter and Semester. We are hoping to have the grades cards out for the 1st Semester by January 24th, but that may be dependent on weather at this point. Either way, we are halfway through our school year! It doesn't seem possible. Let's help our student's keep up the good work they are doing!
GO EAGLES!!!
Calamity Day
As you are aware, we are anticipating some drastic temperatures and weather that could result in closings. We have used 3 calamity days thus far. If we get past 5 days, we will move to online classes for days 6, 7, and 8. After that, we will make them up at the end of the school year.
If we get to day 6 and go to an online format, student's who are sick and unable to attend to an online class or are out for an appointment still need to be called in. Your student, if they are not called in, are expected to be online for every class. If they are not, your home will be called. For instance, your student logs in for 1st and 2nd period, but does not log in to 3rd period, the teacher will notify the office staff and they will call you to determine why your student is not logged in. Their camera must be ON to be considered in the class. The teacher needs to be able to see them in the Google Meet they have set up through the entire 25 minute class period. They will be considered absent from those periods that they do not log on to. If you have any questions about this procedure, please reach out to me. The schedule for an online day will be as follows:
1st Period: 10:00 - 10:30
2nd Period: 10:35 - 11:00
3rd Period: 11:05 - 11:30
Lunch Break: 11:30 - 12:00
4th Period: 12:05 - 12:30
5th Period: 12:35 - 1:00
6th Period: 1:05 - 1:30
7th Period: 1:35 - 2:00
Scheduling
In the coming weeks, the students will begin the process of scheduling classes for next school year and, with this in mind, they will be receiving registration materials in February. In addition, the 2025-202 Course Description Guide detailing all of the course offerings will be accessible through our website in the near future. This document will give specifics regarding all courses as well as general information associated with the registration process. Please help your student make choices that will not only challenge them, but help them in whatever direction they will be going to after they graduate!
From the School Nurse!
With all the illness going around, and some of them keeping students out multiple days, please take a look at this and keep it in mind when debating about sending your student to school.

Final Forms
Please make sure you and your student update Final Forms if you have not already done so!
So, why do our Penta students need to do this? For many reasons, the most important of which, is to assure that we have the most up-to-date contact information for you for both the school and transportation. We will be sending you things via the postal service and Final Forms throughout the school year and want to assure we have all the proper information. Being out of the building does not mean you are not still an Eagle! Also, if your student is in the building for any reason, then having emergency medical information is crucial, should something happen that would require it.
So, if you are among those who regularly get emails from Mrs. Jody Eaton regarding Final Forms, please go into Final Forms and assure that you and your student have completed and signed off on what needs to be done! You can also go to the school's website (www.eastwoodschools.org), click on the Parent tab at the top of the page and find a link to Final Forms there.
Thank you in advance for assure that this is completed!
Senior Immunizations
Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective layer around the brain and spinal cord. This disease can be fatal or leave those who survive it with permanent disabilities. The meningococcal vaccine is the best way to avoid meningitis.
Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization are subject to exclusion from school.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding immunizations, please contact Dannelle Sutton, RN, School Nurse at dsutton@eastwoodschools.org or call the Ohio Department of Health Immunization Program hotline at 800-282-0546, or visit the ODH website.

Medication
Finals Forms has provided some confusion in regards to medication for our students. If your student will need to take medication at school, be it prescription or over the counter, you will need to print out the appropriate form on Final Forms, complete it and send it in to school. You will also need to provide a bottle of medication in its original container. We do not have medication (Tylenol, Advil, etc) to give to students.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office and speak to the secretaries.
Free and Reduced Applications
Fees - IMPORTANT REMINDER
This is a policy that is set by the board and the secretaries will be adhering to it. If you have a balance, please make arrangements to pay the fees via PaySchoolCentral with a credit card, or in the office with exact cash or a check.
If you would like a copy of the policy, please contact the office and Mrs. Eaton or Mrs. Brown will be happy to provide it to you.
For our families of Seniors: It is also part of board policy that Seniors will not be issued their diplomas until all fees are paid and community service is completed. If you need to set up a payment plan, it is suggested you do this early in the year to ease the burden in May. Please contact Mrs. Jody Eaton to do so at jeaton@eastwoodschools.org or call her at the office at 419-833-3611.
