Colts Connection For Parents
October Edition
We Value Your Communication
We appreciate you staying connected with your child's education. To make communication easier, we're using SeeSaw as our main way to talk with you. This helps us keep things simple, especially if you have multiple children in our school.
Please understand that teachers may not always be able to respond immediately, especially during class time (8:30 AM - 3:15 PM). They'll get back to you as soon as they can, usually during breaks or after school.
If you need an urgent response about something like end-of-day plans or lunch drop-off, please contact the school office. They'll make sure your message gets to the teacher right away.
For less urgent messages, please allow up to 24 hours for a reply.
To support our teachers' work-life balance, we follow a communication guideline of 7 AM to 7 PM. This means teachers may respond to messages during these hours.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to talk to Mr. McEntee.
We hope this helps you stay connected with your child's education while also understanding the busy schedules of our teachers.
Free Oil Kings Hockey Tickets - December 15
We have 3 pairs of tickets to give away to attend the Edmonton Oil Kings hockey game at Roger's Place in Edmonton on December 15th at 4:00 pm. If you would like to be entered for the chance to win one of the three pairs of tickets, please fill out the form below (your information will be used to contact winners and will not be shared in any way).
The draw is for tickets only, the winners will be responsible for their own transportation and expenses at the game.
We will draw for the tickets on November 15th, 2024. Winners will be contacted directly and names shared in the November Colts Connection.
Grading Scale Change/Adjustment
You can view your child's progress throughout the year by logging into your Parent Portal. If you are having troubles accessing your Parent Portal, please contact the office.
Cold Weather and Recess
As the weather is starting to get colder, a reminder that we go outside for recess three times a day and students are expected to go outside. We value the importance of fresh air being active to support student learning in the classroom. Students are expected to go outside for recess up to and including -25 degrees Celsius (this includes taking wind chill into effect). There are times when the weather is close to the -25 mark where we may adjust the amount of time outside, however, students are still expected to go outside during that time. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (yes, we know the struggle for those older students). We do have clothing available for students who do not have the appropriate clothing so we can assure they are getting outside and being active even on the colder days. If you are not able to provide proper winter clothing for your child, for any reason, please contact the school and we can make sure your child has everything they need.
Birthday Book
We are excited to introduce year 2 of the Birthday Book Program at PES. The Birthday Book program involves a $15 donation to enroll your child in the program. Students who enroll in the Birthday Book Program will come to the library during the month of their birthday and select from an array of newly purchased books. The child's name is put on a bookplate sticker (see below) on the front of the book and the book is then added to our library's book collection for students to read. It is important to note that while the child will be the first to check out the book, it is not owned; it's a donation to the library with the intention that the child's generosity will last in the library for years to come and continue to build the inventory of books in our library. You can sign your child up for the program under the School Fees section of your Parent Portal.
Dare to Care Program Free for Parents
We have access to a Free Program for Parents called Dare to Care. The Dare to Care is a program that provides teachers and parents resources to support students around bullying prevention. The program provides great resources for Parents as well on how to support your child if you think they are being bullied. We work as a school community to encourage our students to be kind and caring and to create a welcoming environment for learning. The Dare to Care program is an additional resource we use and encourage our families to sign up and learn with us on how we can work together to prevent bullying or bullying-type behaviour. November 7th we will be hosting our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. The ceremony will start at 10:45 am in the gym. All parents/guardians are welcome to join us. We do ask that students dress respectfully for that day to show their respect and honour the sacrifices and service of our soldiers.
