Leading and Learning: WHO I AM
"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me." ...I disagree, Batman!
You can get by as a leader with this type of mentality for a while, but it is impossible to sustain. If you look up the definition of integrity, you find two things. First, integrity means the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Secondly, integrity is defined as the state of being whole and undivided. Integrity, therefore, is wholeness, and as a virtue, it is uniting belief and action. Breaking that unity (of belief and action) is literally possessing a lack of integrity. What you believe drives your behavior; how you behave tells you what you truly believe. If you give me long enough to observe a person’s behavior, I will tell you what that person believes. While we may try and keep our beliefs and values to ourselves, our behavior is never private. Our behaviors define our beliefs for those around us. We can convince ourselves that our actions are justified or provide context to our decisions to explain why we acted a particular way even though it is not who we really are. But, our behaviors do not lie; they define what we value. What you do matters; how you are underneath matters even more. No one can sustain a process where they try to behave differently from what is underneath.

Cardinal Recognitions:
Thank you to:
- Amy Boone and our School Counseling Office for organizing our testing.
- our front office staff and support staff for dealing with student sign-outs on Tuesday after the PSAT was finished.
- Jorie DePalma for helping prepare Unity Day Activities for our students.
- Sarah Neville and Bryan Schuerman for taking students to the FCCLA Fall Rally at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds.
- James Thorpe for coordinating the clean-up of Teacher Lunch Courtyard. James and a team spent time over Fall Break cleaning up the courtyard. Hopefully, we will have a few more warm days this year so people can enjoy this clean-up.
Grateful Friday Challenge
Hello Friday! Thanks for visiting again, I’ve really missed you and even though we just came off a two-week break, I’m looking forward to seeing your friends Saturday and Sunday again as well.
This time of year there is so much going on. Over Fall Break, boys soccer made a postseason run, and girls cross country made a trip to semi-state. MLB is winding down, the Colts have won two in a row, and the Pacers have tipped off their season. Our own Southport Cardinals kick off their postseason in Sectionals this week. Balls are bouncing in the gyms, wrestlers are preparing to hit the mats, laps are being swum in the pool, and the winter drumline is gearing up. It seems like everywhere you look, it’s game time.
So today’s #SHSGFC is a little play on the idea of getting in the competition. Here is a link to a Kindness Game that you can try to complete. How many do you think you can get? Can you get them all? Or maybe just four in a row? You’re really playing against yourself, but in the end, we all win from being kind.
