Wiggin Street Parent Update
April 19, 2024
Better Together
Dear Wiggin Street Families,
It's a busy week at Wiggin Street getting ready for tonight's Fun Festival. This is a long standing tradition that is made possible by amazing community support. We have volunteers that include staff, current parents, former parents and students, community, Kenyon employees and students, and members of the MVNU basketball team. The event includes games in the classrooms, food in the cafeteria, and bouncy house fun in the gym. This event is open to everyone!
On Sunday, we will have volunteers from New Life Church offering their service at Wiggin Street. Some families will be helping to move books from our book room in the basement to the top floor in our Reading room. This will make room for a new sensory room that will be completed for next fall. Also, volunteers will be installing new playground instruments and painting equipment as well as touching up paint on the pavement.
We are so grateful for our community! The support does not go unnoticed. On the daily, we have support from parents and Kenyon volunteers. Events like the Fun Festival would not be possible without the support of all of you. I was literally speaking with someone last night that mentioned how special our school is, and I got goosebumps. Just know how appreciative we all are, and we hope you can join us tonight for an amazing community event.
Best regards,
Christy Grandstaff

K-2 Music Program: May 8th
Road Closure begins May 28th!
Please read this article regarding the roundabout construction at the intersection of Route 229 and Wiggin Street that will require road closure.
Village council has scheduled a special session for Monday April 22nd at 7pm to update the community regarding the construction between May 28, 2024 and November and how travel will be impacted to and from the village. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. There will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions. Please send questions prior to the meeting, so Council has a better chance to prepare and provide the most accurate information. People can attend in person at the community center or over zoom. The village website will have all the information.
Grades 3-5 Ohio State Testing Dates
Please keep these dates in mind when scheduling appointments for April. Make-up testing takes some of our educators away from intervention instruction, so we like to limit it as much as possible.
3rd-5th Grade ELA Ohio State Test: April 17 & 18
5th Grade Science Ohio State Test: April 23 & 24
3rd-5th Grade Math Ohio State Test: April 30 & May 1
This site for students and families has lots of great information about the state test and 3rd grade Reading Guarantee as well as practice tests.
State Testing Tips for Students
- Get enough sleep beforehand
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Stick with regular routines
- Remain positive and have a growth mindset
*We have had some students lately coming to school with fake fingernails. They can be challenging to type with them on in the regular classroom, but we especially ask that they are not worn on testing days. We appreciate your help with this.
4th Quarter PBIS Event: Duct Tape and a Frozen Treat
Students are working this quarter for 50 PBIS points. The reward is a piece of Duct Tape to participate in Duct Taping me to a wall. While I'm hanging out, LOL, they will enjoy a frozen treat at recess. The culminating event will be when they come back in and pass through the hallway to see me all duct taped!
2024-25 Class Lists and Teacher Requests
A lot goes into creating class lists. Teachers meet with the next grade level as well as other staff that work closely with the grade level to make sure the classes are well balanced. Students' academic levels and Social Emotional needs are just a couple of ways that teachers look at to balance the classes. This continues into the summer as we are made aware of new enrollment. For these reasons, we feel it is important to wait till August to share the final lists.
If you have an educational reason for a teacher request, please submit it in writing via email to myself at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us by May 1st, 2024. Also, if you know your child will not be attending next year, please let us know.
Community Bulletin Board
Check out our Community Bulletin Board on our website here. You can find flyers that the district receives for distribution from district boosters, PTOs, and nonprofit organizations.
Foster Grandparent Opportunity
We are so grateful for Grandma Flip. She has been a Foster Grandparent for our Kindergarten for at least 10 years, and makes a difference everyday!
