Principal Message
March 3, 2024
Hello Seahawks! We have had a lot of events and activities happening the past two weeks. Our students have completed their WIDA testing and part of their YPQC testing. We were second place winners in the LKSD Science Fair and we hosted the Midcoast League Basketball Tournament. This quarter our students demonstrated exceptional dedication and passion for woodworking. They designed and created furniture for our village clinic and their work not only enhanced their technical skills but also fostered a sense of community and purpose. Lastly, we hosted a Family Cultural Night for students and families to socialize and participate in cultural activities together. Spring has finally arrived and we are now wrapping up the third quarter and finalizing grades. This Friday March 7 is a teacher work day so the school will be closed. Our Spring Break vacation is Monday March 10-14 and the school will reopen on Monday March 17. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Spring vacation.

Woodworking Community Project
This quarter, students demonstrated exceptional dedication and passion for woodworking. Their commitment to learning was evident as they worked tirelessly to complete their projects, often extending their efforts beyond regular class hours. Despite challenges, they exhibited perseverance, teamwork, and a strong desire to refine their craftsmanship. A highlight of the quarter was a short field trip to the community clinic, where students took measurements for a side table they plan to construct for use beside patient beds. This project holds special significance, as many clinic staff members are family members of the students, who take great pride in seeing their loved ones learn and create meaningful furniture. The students’ ability to push beyond their limits, support one another, and take pride in their accomplishments was truly inspiring. Their work not only enhances their technical skills but also fosters a sense of community and purpose.

World War II Research Project
Kenneth Nicholai did an excellent job on his World War II research project. While conducting research he learned about the German war tanks so he decided to design his own replica of the tank.
CREATIVE WRITING POETRY
James Thomas wrote a pantoum poem (Malaysian poetry style that uses repetition of lines) called "Icy Winter Rain" in his Creative Writing class. He entered the poem into the " Poetry Nation" competition. We are proud to announce that his poem has advanced to the semi-final round of the Poetry Nation Competition and may have the opportunity to be published by Eber & Wein Publishing Company.

Language Arts: Beowulf (Ancient Epic Poem) Project
Audrey Cleveland read the Beowulf poem in her Language Arts 4 course. Beowulf is an Old English epic poem in the tradition of Germanic heroic legend consisting of 3,182 alliterative lines. It is one of the most important and most often translated works of Old English literature. Audrey created a podcast to explain the poem. Click the link below to hear it!
