Character Education - Why we teach this in our schools
This is a very good article to highlight the value to teaching Character Education in our schools. Character Education is not only speaking about harassment or bullying. It is about teaching and coaching children on effective ways to work together in a group, on a team and through a common goal.

Junior High Art Students Complete Unit on Element of Color
The Middle School Elements of Art Classes are just finishing up their unit on the Element of Color. The students were tasked with creating four colorways of the same resource photograph: a warm, a cool, a monochromatic, and one using complementary colors in an interesting way. Due to the necessary wait time involved with watercolor painting, the students are able to easily cycle through the four paintings in a logical order, first focusing on the backgrounds (skies), then the middle grounds (mountains or water), and finally the amazing details of the foreground (leaves, trees, grass). Here are a few of their fabulous completed paintings!

Mr. Cosenza's 8th Graders Conduct Successful Winter Toy Drive
116! This year's 8th graders were able to eclipse the current juniors record of 82 shoe boxes packed and delivered for the Winter Toy Drive. Our students have been learning about civic engagement and community involvement in social studies for the last few weeks and all their hard work paid off. Each student and class had a specific role to play, whether it meant going to homerooms to make announcements, stopping by sporting events for donations, making posters or hanging flyers they worked together to get the job done! On Thursday they started the wrapping process along with making cards for each shoebox. On Friday they divided, organized, packed and labeled 116 filled shoeboxes. A big thank you to the school, Audubon community, and all others who donated this year. Our success is because of the great community we have around us. Another year down and we continue to see the impact our students can make when they set goals and work together!

Next up, our trek to the top of Mt. Everest where the students will need to decide if people should be allowed to climb Mt Everest.
Industrial Arts/Technology Department Updates
Students in Creative Technology have recently completed their Catapult and Launcher project. Students designed their catapults by completing research, possible solutions, a technical drawing, and a blueprint. Student blueprints were then scanned by the laser engraver and were cut out of draftboard materials. Students then assembled, tested, and redesigned their catapults before their final launch. 7th grade students Casey Levin and Max Chrzanowski beat the long standing 128' record held by Tyler Perozzi and Trent Bantle with a new launch record of 136'. Students in Creative Technology have now begun their collaboration with students from Skills for Living classes to create custom 3D printed cookie cutters before the holiday season.
