Kay's Creek Connection
Week of November 4 Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Kay's Creek Families,
We look forward to meeting with all of you this week for our parent/teacher conferences. Students and teachers have been preparing to show you their progress and discuss goals they've set for the next term. If you have not signed up, please do so today! Tomorrow all those who have not selected a slot will be autoscheduled. You can sign up on your myDSD.
Along with our conferences, we have our Book Fair, which raises money primarily to keep our library stocked with your child's favorite books. Please plan on attending one of the 3 times it's open, and please invite a VIP in your child's life (grandparent, uncle, older sibling, etc.) to attend with them at the VIP breakfast/book fair Friday morning.
Please note that our kinders and 1st graders are working on their sustainable development goals this month, with details below. Let's support them!
Do you have a veteran or active military member in your family? We invite you to have them come speak to your child's class about their role in the military on Nov. 11. Please contact your child's teacher if interested.
Thank you and have a wonderful November!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Kay's Creek,
Hello everyone! This month our social and emotional theme is gratitude. With the celebration of Thanksgiving and the holiday season fast approaching, November is always a great month to talk about gratitude. I want to start November the same way I did last year, with a quote from American author, Melody Beattie. Melody is a survivor and someone with a voice and perspective that uniquely qualifies her to speak on this topic. Regarding gratitude she's said, “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into successes, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. It can turn an existence into a real life and disconnected situations into important and beneficial lessons. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Gratitude makes things right.” Gratitude is a powerful lifehack. It includes and considers Every1. This month our challenge is to start each day with a moment of gratitude. However that might look, we can take a moment to reflect on the people, places, and experiences that have shaped our lives.

Drop Off/Pick Up
- Drop off/Pick up has been designed with Safe Routes and Kaysville PD input and with 8 years of trial and error. PLEASE avoid creating additional congestion on Antelope Way. We also have drivers parking the wrong direction which creates difficulties for other drivers and busses to get through. Thank you for your understanding.

Policies & Procedures
- Toys should not be brought to school unless a teacher gives permission for a specific purpose. Resin miniatures, such as the little ducks that are so popular, fit under this policy. They are a disruption in class and on the playground. If your child has a collection of these resin figures, please make sure they keep them at home. They are not allowed at school. When they earn them as prizes, we ask them to take them home.
- The 2024-25 Belonging & Safe Schools Presentation has been presented to all 1st-6th grade students, with the exception of a few students who were absent. We invite parents of kinder students to view it and determine how you would like to share it with your child.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Thank you for your understanding.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
